Mr. Sa bin was accompanied by Robert AYhitney, pianist. Mr. Sabin began his progran'i by having the audience join in singing the “Star Spangled Banner.” Then he thrilled an audience of ap proximately 500 with songs of Brahns. S c h u b e r t, Burleigh, Franz and Verdi. The pianist held the audience spell-bound as he so masterfully played compositions of Listz, Chopin and Rovel. "I'tnner. • I'he Beta Alpha Club, the only male organization on the can'ipus, has Iield meetings at various inter\-als of the week, in order to get started for the year 1944-45. I'he ( lidj gets its name from the initials of the first two letters of the Greek Alj^habet— “A" and “B." 'Fhe name “Beta .Alpha" signifies Good Friend, which comes from the French expression “Bm Ami.” So far one member has been admitted to the clulx LESTER L. BARRETT President Social Studies Club On October 17th, students of the college met for the organiza tion of a Social Studies Club. Its pur]3ose is to encourage good scholarship and good citizenship by participation in worthwhile community projects. The club meets at 7:00 P. M. in Room 17 of Moore Hall on the first and third Tuesdays in each month. All students of the college gen uinely interested iji the Social Studies arc eligible for member ship. The membership is increas ing rapidly and the students are already planning some w’orth- while projects. This club presented the Ves pers program on November 26th. The club was organized by members of the .Social Studies Department composed of the Rev. J. I . Doles, Mr. Brooks Dickens, Mr. J. R. Frazier and Mr. \\^ C;. Each Sunday morning there is a devotional exercise, classroom discussions of the lesson and a program for the day. I'wo dele gates were sent to Greensboro to the conference on Applied Christianity which took placc from Novemlier 17, until Xo- '. ember 19. 1944. The delegates were Misses Lena L. Crandell and Sarah M. Pelham. Sunday School here on the campus gi-^es the Seniors a chance to learn to teach Sunday School as one phase of their prep aration for teaching. • Bits and Briefs All S. T. C. “Bing Crosby Fans” attended the Gaity thea ter 7'uesday night, November M, 1944 to see him display his talent in one of his latest pictures. “Sweet and I.ow” with Benny Cioodman and his orchestra.
