The Team Without Togs
Have you ever stopped to con
sider the impossibility of attain
ing success v:ithout the ‘collective
backing’ tliaL comes from the peo
ple behind the scene ? If you delve
into the a.ccomplishments of our
outstanding leaders, you will find
that each one’s success came as
the result of this hidden, yet very
essential ajid powerful ‘backing.’
Try to imagine the late Roose
velt without Eleanor, the cabinet
members and the democratic par
ty; John L. Lewis without the loy
al support of the union members;
and General Eisenhower without
his general staff in planning stra
tegy. Just as one might doubt
the fate of these people, we doubt
that our Pirates would have been
able to realize their success with
out the seal that came from ‘The
Team Without Togs.’
We, the students of State Teach
ers College, are honored to dedi
cate this issue of the New Letter
to our coaches, our nurse, and
our cheerleaders who so whole
heartedly and zealously sustained
the team that wore the togs.

WHAT A PAIR ! !
Our coaches, James “Fuzzy”
Williams and James “Big Jim”

to their efficiency that the Pir

desire — “Champs of E.I.A.C. for
1947.’’
Mr. James Williams, Head
Coach and Chairman of the Phy
sical Edacation Department, has
worked diligently for two years
with the Pirates. He is an alum

Durham, North Carolina. From the
University of Michigan he receiv

Aside i'roni teaching classes in
Health and Physical Education, he
is the sponsor of one of the most
active clubs on the campus, The
Imperial Nautilus.
■ Assistant Coach, James Fisher,
is a graduate of Johnson C. Smith
University of Charlotte, North
Carolina. During his college ca
reer, he was an outstanding ath

he works primarily with ends and
backs, and doubles as expert on
sprains for the boys. Mr. Fisher

FOR SALE
A car with piston rings
Two rear tires and no front
springs;
Has no fenders, seat or tank.
Burns lots of gas and is hard to
crank.
The carburetor’s busted in two,
Engine missing, hit's on two
Eleven years old, was twelve this
winter;
Has shock absorber and every
thing.
Radiator's busted:
Sure does leak,
Differentials are dry—
You can hear them speak.
Ten spokes missing.
Front all bent;
Tires blown out.
Ain’t worth a cent.
Tires all off.
Has been run on the rim;
To hold out much longer,
Chances are slim.
The name's' scratched off,
I don’t knew what it’s called;
But it will be a swell car if—■
It were overhauled.
