Conference to Sponsor Tonrnament The Northeastern Carolina Inter scholastic Athletic Conference will hold its initial basketball tournament at State Teachers College, Elizabeth City, March 20 and 21 in the Col lege gymnasium. Eleven high schools have entered the tourney, namely, Currituck Union High School of Maple, Beaufort County High School of Pantego, P. W. Moore High School of Elizabeth City, Edenton High School of Eden- ton, T. S. Cooper of Sunbury, Robert L. Vann of Ahoskie, C. S. Brown High School of Winton, W. C. Chance High School of Parmele, C. C. White High School of Powells- ville, Tyrrell High School of Cokun- bia, Perquimans Training School of Winfall. Bob White, of Elizabeth City State Teachers College and Tournament Di rector, has announced that there will be six sessions beginning Friday morning, March 20 and 21 at 9:00 a.m. Session two, Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Session three, Friday even ing at 7:00 p.m., which will wind up the first round of competition. The quarter finals begin Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., the semi-finals at 1:30 p.m. and the finals Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. Drawing will be held at the college on Thursday, March 19th at 7:00 p.m. Coaches Dempsey, House, Crumm, Newsome, Battle, Futrell, Coggings, Armstead, Carter, Hoover, and Reid SPRING TRAINING NEARS This spring the Ehzabeth City Pi rates football team will undergo two and a half weeks of training in order to get some idea of where the team needs strengthening, and some likable prospects to fill these positions. Among the new faces to be seen on the gridiron next week will be Paul “Kit” Martin, William “Bill” Lig- gins and Cleve “Little Hawk God frey. RIP VAN WINKLE SLEEPS FOR TWENTY YEARS Miss A. E. Minga in an assembly program on March 4 pointed out how the modern Rip Van Winkle who had gone to sleep in 1932 would not rec ognize the wards in his hospital when he awakened in 1952. Never in the history of medicine has so much changed so radically in twenty years, said the speaker. The “wonder drugs” which have brought about these changes are the sulfona mides, the antibiotics, the antimala- nials drpgs and the hormone corti sone. A brief survey of the large impact of these drugs on scientific research and our national health was made by Miss Minga. The Broncos won an early lead in the second quarter and held it until the closing moments of the fourtl, quarter.
