APRIL-MAY, 1966 THE COMPASS PAGE NINE "Pete" Peterson's Players Present Prized Performance The College Players, under the direction of Mr. Bernard "Pete” Peterson, recently pre sented George Kelly’s three act drama, Craig’s Wife. The Col lege "amateur actors and ac tresses” did a professional job on this 1925 Pulitzer Prize win ning play. The production was given as a Fine Arts Festival event. Three freshmen introduced themselves to the college family through this production. They are Saundra Melson, Floyd John son, and John Thatch. The leading role of Mrs. Craig was played by Saundra Melson. Mrs. Craig was a selfish, possessive, egotistical woman whose only purpose was to se cure for herself, her home, while reducing her husband’s role to the smallest possible in the pro cess. Saundra is a native of Elizabeth City and so is William Purkett, who played the part of Mr. Craig, the second leading character in the play. Purkett, whose face is a fa miliar one with the College Play ers, is a junior. He won the hearts of the audience through Mr. Craig. He was the victim of his wife’s egotistical acts until he began to see over the wall which she built to conceal her true self. Other participants in the. play were Kay Wilson *67, Merita Spruill '68, Velvora Harris '67, Linda Davis '67, Joseph Brown '66, LeRoy Brickhouse '67, John Thatch '69, and Floyd Johnson '69. A group of high school stu dents viewed the production on the second night of its perfor mance. One young man in the group remarked at the close of the curtains, "Man, real pro.” The young lady next to him ask ed, "Pro what?” "Fes-sion-al,” was his reply.
