Faculty Notes
Dr. Louise N. Sutton, pro-
fessor of mathematics and chair
man of the Department of Physi
cal Sciences and Mathematics,
was one of twenty-six college
mathematics teachers who par
ticipated in a National Science
Foundation sponsored institute,
in modern mathematics at the
University of Illinois. All par
ticipants took courses in founda
tions of geometry, real analysis,
and modern algebra.

Dr. Md Ashraful Alam studied
at the University of Florida, in
the Department of Chemistry,
which was sponsored by the
National Science Foundation
Summer Research Fellowship for
College Teachers. His research
specialty was hydrogen-bonding
studies, using Nuclear Magnetic
Resonance technique.
The name of his possible
publication is a paper entitled,
"Nuclear Magnetic Studies of
Hydrogen Bonding, 111 Dimethyl-
nihosamine and Diethylnitroamie
with 2-Propanol”. It is to be
published by the Journal of Phy
sical Chemistry, published
monthly by American Chemical
Society.
Band News
The Elizabeth City State
College Marching Vikings be
gan its "1967-68” marchings
season on Monday, September
II, at 3:00 p.m. We are very
proud to welcome 35 freshmen
and our Director of Woodwinds
and Assistant Barui Director,
Mr. J. B. R. Hester.
This year should be one of
the most exciting and interesting
years in the history of the
Marching Vikings. Our schedule
calls for performances at five
home games and three gameS'
away. The three games away
are Virginia Union University,
Richmond, Virginia, The Fish
Bowl Classic, Portsmouth, Vir
ginia, Delaware State College,
Dover, Delaware.
On Saturday, October 14th,
the Marching Vikings will make
their first appearance for a pro
fessional football game half-time
show. This will be in Norfolk,
Virginia for the Norfolk'Nep-
tunes of the Continental Foot
ball League.
We would like to welcome all
students who are interested in
music to come join our family,
and to all freshmen and new
students, we would like to say
congratulations and we hope
your stay here at ECSC will be
most pleasant and enjoyable.
