Little Li brary at Elizabeth City State University has been awarded a $6,058 grant under I'itle II-A, Higher Education Act of 1965. Granted under the college Library Resources Pro gram, the grant will be used to upgrade ECSU’ collection of books and other materials. According to Hobson Thompson, the univer sity’s librarian, this will be the fourth such grant received by ECSU since 1965. The library, which currently has 63,389 vol umes, was recently se lected to participate in the Education Improvement Project of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Under this program ECSU is now scheduled to receive $1,000 worth of books (mostly paperbacks) in the area of black studies. FINANCIAL AID (Continued from page 1) Thorpe, “We raised this amount above our normal budget through grants or contributions from the federal government, the state of North Carolina, private organizations,and individuals.” In addition to the above amount, more funds are expected to be received before July 1, 1969 that will push the total well over one mill ion dollars. A breakdown of the fundraising report show ed the following sources of financial contributions: federal government, $527,915 plus a balance of $48,029 which was SCHOOL MASTERS AT ECSU The Northeastern North Carolina School Masters Club held its monthly meeting at Eliza beth City State Univer sity. Headed by W. H. Creecy, Principal, White Oak School, the 28 mem ber organization met to continue its discussion of current issues and pro posals affecting public school education. Dr. Marion D. Thorpe,Presi dent of Elizabeth City State University; Thomas E. Carter, Acting Dean; Dr. Ernest A, Finney, Director of Student Teaching and Summer School, and Lawrence E. The latest amount re commended was a $25, 000 federal grant, author ized under Title VI, High er Education Act of 1965. Dr. Thorpe was confi dent that “Additional funds will be received by Elizabeth City State Uni versity before July 1.” “These funds have been and will be used to se cure, improve, and/or expand: student services and financial aid; equip ment; research; the li brary; athletics; and other areas"^d aspects of development atthecol- lege,” he explained.
