Dedication and integ rity depict the diligent work of Mr. James A. Creech in the Business Education Department. Mr. Creech is an Assist ant Professor of Busi ness Education, and is serving as acting chair man of the Business Ed ucation Department. Mr. James A Creech is a native of Wilson County, North Carolina. His formal education was begun at Springfield High School in Lucama, North Carolina, where he re ceived his diploma. After completing his high school graduation, he continued his education at North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina, where he received both his Bach elor of Science and Mas ter Degrees in Business Education. He has fur ther studied Business Ad ministration at New York University. From 1953-55, Mr. Creech was chief clerk. Battalion Personnel, United States Armed For ces. He served as an in structor at Durham Bus iness College, a visiting instructor at North Car olina Central University, a counselor for the Na tional Science Training Program at North Caro lina Central University For five years, Mr. Creech instructed Busi ness Education at Carver High School in Mount Olive, North Carolina.Al so, while at Carver High School he was employed as Assistant Principal. He has served as presi dent of Wayne County Teachers Association. His teaching experiences also include the instruct ing of a basic business adult class for Wayne Community College, and as instructor at Slmw Un- Students study earnestly as Mr. Creech stands by to render assistance. MR. JAMES at ECSU. iversity. Mr. Creech has just completed four suc cessful years of teaching here at Elizabeth City State University. He holds membership in the National Business Education Association, the Eastern Business Teachers Association, and the North Carolina Central University Alum ni Association. As an ora tor, he has delivered commencement address es, and has been chosen to speak on several other occasions. During his employment here at Elizabeth City State University, Mr, Creech has contributed greatly to the social, aca demic and moral devel opment of students in the Business Education Field. His interest at heart concerns first the welfare of the students. As a counselor, Mr. Creech has done much to guide, advise and assist Business Education ma jors in their profession- ARTHUR CREECH chairman of the Business Education Department Mr. Creech and student review records. assistant, Fannie Williams, al interests. His devo tion and genuine concern for the students are un questioned. As an in structor, his methods of teaching are unprece dented. He installs in each of his class attendants a sense of tranquility and well being. He establish es in his classroom ses sions an enlronment con ducive to learning. He is a humorous teacher, yet he is still business- oriented. As Department Head of the Business Education Department, Mr. Creech has exercised good judg ment in planning the fu ture needs of the depart ment. The department has expanded considerably under the supervision and leadership of this dy namic and experienced leader. Under Creech’s administration, the busi ness education depart mental office was re located on the second floor of Moore Hall in an effort to serve the stu dents in meeting the chal lenge of today’s business world. The student- faculty relationship has improved and developed into a more meanin^ul channel of communica tion. This young, dynamic leader has many plans that are geared toward the betterment of the Bus iness Education dept. His future plans for the de partment include the up grading of the current business curriculum, and the upgrading of the cur rent equipment for the de partment. Plans are also being made to mold the 2 year secretarial program into a four-year program. He is straightforward. He is congenial. He is understan^ng. He is ver satile. During his stay here at Elizabeth City State University, he has earned the respect and adm"ration of many, and for this reason and many others, he is known among the business students as “Father,” Mr. Creech’s hobbies include dancing, singing, and playing the piano. The Business Education De partment is very fortu nate to have possession of such a valuable asset. It is the conviction of the students that the de partment will continue to expand through the re search and dedicated ser vices of Mr. James Ar thur Creech....to him we salute HI '“Your fare, young lady,” said the handsome train conductor. She smiled at him sweetly, “you’re not so bad your self.’' ***** REPORT ONPUGH AND WALTON Jethro Pugh, who vi sited his Alma Mater shortly before undergo ing a serious knee ope ration, is now moving like the Jethro Pugh of the 1967 season. According to Gil Brandt of the Dal las cowboys, “If not this year, next year Pugh will get the recognition that he really deserves as a defensive tackle in the NFL.” No one at ECSU doubts about Pugh returning to form. Everyone has been speculating on how the NFL’s first black quar terback, Johnny Walton, is doing in the camp of the Los Angeles Rams, In a phone conversa tion with Paul (Tank) Younger, the Ram’s scout who signed Walton, Coach Tom Caldwell found out that, “Ball handling and passing are the things Johnny are doing best right now.” ‘When Walton develops the ability to read the pro defenses, he is going to be a good understudy for our number-one quar terback, Roman Gabriel, Younger felt. The pro-scout added, “If Johnny can stick it out for two or three years, he can really make aname for himself in the NFL,” “What do you give a man who has every thing?” the pretty coed asked her mother, “Encouragement, dear’' she replied, ^ 4::|c There’s a psychiatrist who had discovered a new type of shock treatment. He sends his bill in ad vance. m Mr. Creech has social hour with students in summer school.
