We would like to ack nowledge the gradua tion of two of our finest brothers. Brother Gary Harvey and Brother Loyd Moore and the retirement of anadvisor. Brother Dr. Ernest Finney. For the incoming year. Alpha Phi Alpha has lin ed - up a whole new program of events. This year we will turn our resources toward getting people interested in their environment. We also join with oth ers in asking everyone to return home and register to vote. For the sake of the world, please VOTE. Jimmie Kilpatrick Honor Sisterhood 3i\ CI|t XI PSl cm is a “Black - Brotherhood" founded on the campus of Hamp ton Institute by three men in 1967. This is a Black - Brotherhood organiza tion, not a fraternity (e- ven though we used Greek letters), nor is it a so cial organization, as such. Some primary goals of rMs Brotherhood are: to express Blackness to its highest degree; to show that Blackness is an in expressed beauty, both internally and external ly to show chat Blackness is a gift to be proud of, and nothing to hold one’s head down about. This Brotherhood has many other goals - too many to mention - but the pri- mJicy goal in our epche- lon of endeavors is to get our people to THINK. This Brotherhood is a direct offspring of the Black movement that is taking place in our pre sent society. The ECSU chapter is Epsilon. There are six members on this campus. These members are: Stephen Hoggard, Wilford Steele, John Tho mas, Van Clemons, Bil ly Pugh, and Charles Gibbs. The group is known as the Struggling Six. A title that is self - ex planatory. The cordial reception by ECSU’s stu dents was pleasing to the Brotherhood. This campus needs such an organization be cause of its originality, integrity, distinction, and well - meaning. The sorors of Alpha Kappa Aljdia Sorority, Inc. wokld like to express a warm welcome to the Freshmen class and transfer students. We hope that you are happy with ourenvironmnt, be cause it is necessary to your academic success. Most of the sorors have shown evidence of a pro sperous summer. We are pleased that twelve so rors are candidates for graduation. Our soror, Vickie Mid- gette, won a trip to Ha waii by having the highest average in the Mid- At lantic Region. Soror Mid- gette reported to us that the trip was very educa tional and gave her a chance to observe the cul ture of other Americans. The Mid-Atlantic region of the sorority consist of North Carolina and Vir ginia. The officers are: Anita Spiller, President; Lena Staton, Secretary; Harlee Brown, Treasurer; Barlender Deloatch, Re porter Unity Greetings, The members of Swing Phi Swing Social Fellow ship, Inc. (Harambee Chapter) would like to welcome the Freshmen and transfer students to Elizabeth City State University, and a warm greetings to all of ECSU’s old family members. Swing Phi Swing is a new and growing social organization. We are the sister organization to Groove Phi Groove So cial Fellowship, Inc. Our colors are White and Black. Swing Phi Swing was founded April 4, 1969 at Winston Salem State Uni versity, Winston Salem, N. C. Swing Phi Swing came to ECSU’s campus No vember 19, 1972 with 13 members. Presently, we have 15 members. Service 2eta ^eta The members of the Al pha Gamma Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority would like to extend a warm welcome to all new and returning Vikings. For those of you are not familiar with the sor ority, its purpose is to promote sisterly love, scholarship, and finer womanhood. The sorori ty’s main interest is comniunity and campus involvement. With te many Zeta e- vents scheduled, the members of the sorority are looking forward to a dynamic year. Highlight ing our events for this semester is the Blue and White Ball which will be held on December 1,1972. We are extending an early invitation to all the mem bers of the Viking family and their friends to come join us. They are Lemuel Eley, Rochester Baker, Joseph Ward, Willie Gilchrist, Larry Alston and Donald Liverman. Congratula tions!! ^clta Delta Sigma Theta So rority wishes to welcome each and every Viking - old and new - back to the campus of ECSU. Delta especially welcomes the Freshmen Class for a “painful”, but pleasure - filled year. This year, along with the whole student body. Delta wishes to make this the best year ever for ECSU. We know you have the school spirit, all we ask is that you get it to gether and support your school to make it what you want it to be. This marks another ye ar of the existence of ECSU, and we extend our sincerity in hopes that your year will be a re warding one. Thus far the Nupes have introduced the noble clan to five outstanding indi viduals known to us as Scorllers: Jessie Gra ham, Ronnie Combo, James Newton, Johnny Hineman, and Willie Lee. Their journey into Kappa Land has just begun. May their endeavor be a re warding one. Peace and power to all and may this year be one of unity for all Broth ers and Sisters. Gamma Sigma Sigma was founded in 1953. The colors are maroon and white. The organiza tion was initiated on EC SU’s campus in the Spring of 1972. From the beginning, these young ladies have strived to insure a sense of awareness, academic and social responsibility, dignity, and pride in the students at Elizabeth Ci ty State University.
