Creech Honored by Staff of Department of Business Education Mr.James Creech On Thursday, Decem ber 7, 1972, the members of the Department of Business Education ho nored James A. Creech, the resigning Acting Chairman of the Depart ment, at a Christmas Party in the Viking Room of the University Center. The activity was spon sored by Phi Beta Lam bda and its advisors, Mrs. Mumtaz Khan and Mrs. Evelyn Roberts. Mr. Creech was pre sented with a plaque on behalf of the Business Majors by Miss Connie Roberts and with an ho norarium on behalf of the Business Faculty and Staff by Mrs. Lona Wilson. During his stay at Eli zabeth City State Univer sity, he proved to be de voted to the cause of the students. His dedication to his profession has been beneficial to the depart ment. No matter how far away Mr. James A. Creech may go, his services here at Elizabeth City State Uni versity will forever re main with us. A Mission Completed Dedication and integri ty depict the diligent work of Mr. James A. Creech in the Department of Business. Mr. Creech is an Assistant Professor of Business Education, and has served as chair man of the Department of Business. Mr. James A. Creech is a native of Wilson, North Carolina. His for mal education was begun at Springfield High School in Lucama, NorSi Caro lina, where he received his diploma. After com pleting his high school graduation, he continued his education at North Carolina Central Univer sity in Durham, North Carolina, where he recei ved both his Bachelor of Science and Master’s De grees in Business Edu cation. He has further studied Business Admini stration at New York Uni versity. From 1953-1955, Mr. Creech was chief clerk. Battalion Personnel, Uni ted States Armed Forces. He served as an instruc tor at Durham Business CoHege, a visiting in structor at North Caro lina Central University, a counselor for the Na tional Science Training Program at North Caroli na Central University for five years. Mr. Creech instructed Business Education at Carver High School in Mount Olive, North Caro lina. Also, while at Car ver High School he was employed as Assistant Principal. He served as President of Wayne Coun ty Teachers Association. Mr. Creech is a mem ber of Creech Chapel Baptist Church, Wilson, N. C. which was founded by his father, the late Reverend Luther Creech. His teaching experien ces include the instruct ing of a Basic Business adult class for Wayne Community College, and as instructor at Shaw Uni versity. Mr. Creech has completed seven suc cessful years of teaching at Elizabeth City State University. He holds membership in the National Business Education Association, and the Eastern Business Teachers Association, and the North Carolina Central University Alum ni Association. As an orator, he has delivered commencement ad dresses, and has been chosen to speak on sev eral other occasions. During his employment here at Elizabeth City State University, Mr. Creech has contributed greatly to the social, aca demic, and moral deve- lopement of students in the Department of Busi ness. As a counselor, Mr. Creech has done much to guide, advise, and assist Business Majors in their professional interests. His devotion and genuine concern for the students are unquestioned. As an instructor, his methods of teaching are unpreceden ted. He instills in each of his class attendants a sense of tranquility and well-being. He establish es in his classroom ses sions an environment conducive to learning. He is a humorous teacher, yet he is still business oriented. As Chairman of the De partment of Business, Mr. Creech has exercised good judgment in planning 5ie future needs of the de partment. The depart ment has expanded con siderably under the su pervision and leadership of this dynamic and ex perienced leader. Under Creech’s Administration the Department of Busi ness office was relocated on the second floor of Moore Hall in an effort to serve the students in meeting the challenge of today’s business world. The student-faculty re lationship has improved and developed into a more meaningful channel of communication. It is the conviction of the students that the de partment has expan ded through the research and dedicated services of Mr. James Arthur Cre- ch TO HIM WE SALUTE! ! I ! It is with mixed emo tions that 1 write this farewell message to the students, faculty, and administration of Eli zabeth City State Uni versity. Each of you, through your kindness and cooperation, has given me an incentive to work hard er to help mold the minds of young men and women as I continue to work with them from day to day. My seven and one-half years of service to Eli zabeth City State Univer sity has been most re warding, and I shall always cherish the op portunity of having work ed here. Elizabeth City State University has great po tential and I challenge each of you to give all you have in order to de velop it to its fullest. Remember, you get out of life what you deposit in it. Mrs. Serey, Sidney Harris and Mr. Creech Biology Notes SUMMER PROGRAM- attended by Miss Alma F. Jenkins, sophomore, bi ology major. The sum mer program was held at Meharry Medical Col lege, sponsored by the college for minority stu dents interested inenter ing the health pro fessions. GRANTS & AWARDS— $3,000.00 from Quaker Oats Company and $1,240 from National Business Alliance for purpose of purchasing autoclaves. ATTEND MEETINGS— Mrs Thomas attended the State P.T.A. meeting in Fayetteville, N. C. Mrs. Muldrow served as a judge for the Sci ence Art Exhibition in Ahoskie, North CaroUna. Dr. Khan attended 12 Black Institution CPI pro gram Richmond, Va., and American Assoc, Medical Colleges, Miami Beach, Florida. DR. THURBER- From East Carolina for recrui ting to Medical School. Manley, a mem ber of the faculty, Eli zabeth City, N. C. Prior to the initiation ceremony a paper was presented by each of the student candidates. Their topics were as follows: Patricia Baze more, "The Collegiate Scholar: Education for the Elite Status;” Bar bara Bivens, “The Open Classroom;” Doris Jackson, "Test: A De termining Factor in One’s Life and Education;” Mildred Thornhill, “The Classroom Environ ment;” Gloria Williams, “Progressivism versus Traditionalism,” Juanita McCaffity, “Environ mental Pollution;” and Gloria Winslow, “Basic Types of Cell Divisions. The members of Kappa Delta Pi present were: Wilbert Wilson, Pre sident; Sonny Webb, Treasurer; Carolyn Jo nes, Secretary; Loretta Navarres, Vice Presi dent; a^ Jewel Britt, Reporter. Also present were Mr. Alfred Carter, a faculty member and Dr. Edna Davis, counselor and advisor.
