However, ECSU has not received the necessary feedback from this effort to make a definite decision, at this time. “The availability of a graduate program, at ECSU, will be of tremendous value to college graduates and in-service teachers in north-eastern North Carolina,” Dr. Benjamin F. Speller, Jr., Assistant Academic Dean-Special Programs, assessed. Under the proposed arrangements with East Carolina University, and in accordance with the wishes of prospective participants, ECSU will establish graduate programs in Curriculum, Reading, Educational Administration and Supervision, Student Personnel Services, Guidance and Counseling, and/or in other areas, as may be necessary. Also, ECSU proposes to offer the required graduate courses during the regular day sche dule, evening hours, or on weekends. Area supetintendants, principals, supervisors and interested participants are urged to cooperate with ECSU, in conducting the survey, by contacting Dr. Speller (335-0551, extension 363) or Mrs. Morgan (335-0551, extension 312) for additional information. Khan, Chairman of the Biology Department, announces that two Elizabeth City State University students will participate in the Brookhaven Semester Program. Selected to study and do research, at the Brookhaven National Laboratory, from January 20 through May 9, were Ceceil Christine Gallop and Allen Ted Wynn. Their selection follows the successful participation, last year, of Alma F. Jenkins, Jerome Spruill and Alvin Gibson. While at Brookhaven, they completed research on “Thymus Cell Migration: Studies on the Life Span of Thymic Cell Migrants,” “The Detection of Sub-Microgram Quantities of Protein by a Modified Innumopricipitin Technique,” and “Extraction of Argon-37 by Cosmic Rays from Limestone,” respectively. The selection of Gallop and Wynn, for study under this year’s program, brings to six the number of ECSU students who have studied at the national laboratory, located at Upton, Long Island, New York, since 1973. ECSU’s first participant in the program, Leonard E. Holley, is currently a graduate student, at Kent State University. Prior to entering graduate school, he participated in summer studies at the Argonne (Illinois) National Laboratory. Gallop, a native of Powells Point, N.C., is a junior biology major. A member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and Treasurer of the Student Government Association, she is active in several other campus organizations. During the past semestet, she participated in the RIAD project, at ECSU, doing research, under Dr. Curtis D. Turnage, on the “Investigation of Peritrich Morphology, Cytochemistry and Habitat.” While at Brookhaven, she plans to take courses in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. Wynn, a native of Elizabeth City, N.C., is a junior chemistry major, in the Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics, Dr. Louise N. Sutton. Chairman. Recipient of an NCAE scholarship from the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank County School System and a Certificate of Honor from the Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, he is a member of the Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity, and the Science and Mathematics Club. Under the supervision of Dr. Ashraful Alam, also of the RIAD project, Wynn has done research on “The Effect of an Active Chemical in Vitex negundo of Various Biological Systems,” and “The Interaction of Toxic Pollutants with Biological Macromolecules. He plans to study Physical Chemistry and Bio-Organic Chemistry, at Brookhaven. According to Dr. Khan, who is a member of the Regional Cooperative Association in Science and Mathematics, the Brookhaven Semester Program is designed to: encourage promising students from developing colleges and universities to seek careers in the fields of science and mathematics; and to expose students to the latest techniques, tools, and designs used in research. The Brookhaven Laboratory is a national center for nuclear research. UCRF The members of United Christian Religious Fellowship would like to thank the student body, the faculty, the university choir, the fraternities, the sororities, and the community for their support in the programs that have been held. We would like for you to continue your support, because there is more to come. Through March 9-13, 1975, we will be celebrating Religious Emphasis Week. Our guest minister will be the Dr. Richard A. Councill, Norfolk, Virginia. One of the guest lecturers will be Rabbi Robert Sharff, Oheb Sholom Temple, Norfolk, Virginia. On each Sunday at 9 o'clock a.m., Sunday School is being held in the Moore Hall Auditorium. The revolution for the year of 1975 for Sunday School made by Rev. R. Lorenzo Newby, Campus Minister; and Mr. Willie Koonce, Superintendent of Sunday School was to start it off in classes, in'stead of having lectures each morning. Each class has the supporting help of teachers, they are: Mr. Carter, Mr. Lawrence Spells, and Miss Alma Jenkins (Miss E.C.S.U.). The new change was made so that it would involve more students making it more meaningful. Rev. R.L. Newby has scheduled each Thursday at 8 o'clock p.m. in the Moore Hall, room 101, for Bible Class for those who want to know more about the Bible. The members of U.C.R.F. are continuing looking forward for “your” support. Linda D. Miller Miss U.C.R.F. Kappa’s Working For Achievement The Epsilon Alpha Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, consists of: Dwight Lawler, Olen “O.J.” Thompson, Wesley Stancil, Leroy Lacy, Ronnie Cumbo, Rodney Robinson, Jesse Graham, Anthony Ray, Norman Williams, Wilbur White, Calvin Worsley, James Newton, Russell Gotten, and Phillip White. The advisors are: Curt Turnage and Herrold Murrell. The chapter started the year by initiating six brothers into the bond. Each brother has a style of his own. Wilbur “Tip” White is rated among the best art majors ECSU has ever had among its folds. James Newton and Wesley Stancil are well involved in Student Government affairs. Phillip White is a member of the VIKINGS football team and was selected on the all-NAIA team this past season. Jesse Graham, Rodney Robinson, Anthony Ray, Norman Williams and Calvin Worsley are well known members of the VIKINGS high stepping band. The brothers are involved in campus and community life and carry themselves in a way which speaks for itself. They believe in achievement and each in his own way is doing just that. Some projects which are now being formed are the Kool Kappa Kats and the Kappa Kittens, community and campus support, and Kappa Week (April 7-12).
