Thalia Sorosis
Hold Annual Vesper
Thalia Sorosis Social Club
held its Annual Vesper Service
on Sunday, March 16, 1975 at
6:00 p.m. The guest speaker for
this year was the Reverend
Jospeh Green, Pastor of Grace
Episcopal Church, Norfolk,
Virginia. Reverend Green’s
message was centered around
“The Importance of Not
Forgetting”. He stated that
people often tend to forget the
important things of life; such
as, the people who have helped
them along and the teachings
of the Bible.
The University Choir, direct
ed by Miss Evelyn A. Johnson,
supplied the music for the
program. The evening was
concluded with an annual
banquet which was held in the
game room of the University
Center. The banquet was
attended by faculty, staff,
students, and members of the
community. During the ban
quet, there was a presentation
to Mrs. D.E. Thomas, advisor
for Thalia Sorosis Social Club.
Elections At ECSU
The Student Government
Association reports that elec
tions will be held April 10,
1975, for the executive offices
of Student Government and for
Miss ECSU.
Much work has been done on
the revision and/or establish
ing of a new constitution for
SGA. There is presently a
constitution committee working
diligently on the project. All
interested Vikings are urged to
become involved.
Elections will consist of a
campaigning period of a

Elizabeth City State University
held its annual Founder’s Day
commemorating the eighty-
fourth anniversary of Elizabeth
City State University.
The celebration began with
an assembly of the faculty,
staff, student body, alumni and
friends. Mr. Maceo A. Sloan,
CLU, Senior Vice-President of
the North Carolina Mutual
Insurance Co., delivered the
address. Following the assem
bly was the presentation,
dedication and naming of
buildings. The building names
are as follows:
Marion Dennis Thorpe, Sr. -
Administration Building named
in honor of Marion Dennis
Thorpe, Sr., Chancellor of
Elizabeth City State University.
Evelyn A. Johnson Hall -
named in honor of Evelyn A.
Johnson, Professor of Music
and Director of University
Choir.
Lucille McLendon Hall
named in honor of the late
Lucille McLendon, College
Supervisor of Primary Educa
tion.
Edna Harris Mitchell and
Eva J. Lewis Hall - named in
honor of the late Edna H.
Mitchell, Professor of English
and Chairman of the Depart
ment of Modern Languages
and the late Eva J. Lewis,
Teacher of English.
Mamie Bedell Cafeteria -
named in honor of the late
Mamie Bedell, Assistant Direc
tor of Food Services at
Elizabeth City State University.
McDonald Dixon Hall
named in honor of McDonald
Dixon, former Chairman of the
Board of Trustees of Elizabeth
City State University.
Timothy H. Wamack Hall -
named in honor of the late
Timothy H. Wamack, Associate
Professor of Geography.
Walter N. Ridley University
Center - named in honor of
Walter N. Ridley, former
President of Elizabeth City
State University.
The congregation then pro
ceeded to the Oak Grove
Cemetery where wreaths were
placed on the graves of Hugh
Cale, Peter W. Moore, and
John H. Bias.
We acknowledge the many
accomplishments of these grcai
founders of Elizabeth City State
University, and feel it is
mandatory that we as students,
faculty and staff, continue to
make achievements and contri
bute greatness to our Univer
sity.

Founder’s Day
Student National Education Association
Several members of the P. W.
Moore chapter of the Student
National Education Association
will travel to the SNCAE
convention which will be neld
in Greensboro, N.C. during the
week of April 10-12, 1975.
This year, we have a
nominee for the Presidency,
who is Willie Koonce. He is a
native of Kinston, N.C., the
President of Phi Beta Sigma
Fraternity, Inc., he is also the
General Superintendant of the
Sunday School, and is involved
with other student organiza
tions.
For the first time in Human
Relations Award will be given
to an outstanding member of
SNCAE. Sherwood Mumford
the cluster coordinator of our
Cluster #1 is on the committee
to select qualified persons.
