PAGE 2 THE COMPASS February, 1976 ‘Puppets ” tell the story about nutrition, FD, and drug abuse Testing Service Described How to make learning about good health care fun as well as informative is one of the many things that 60 members of Future Homemakers of America (FHA) explored at a March of Dimes (MOD) sponsored workshop in Estes Park, Colo., this past fall. Representing 20 states, the 40 high school juniors and seniors and their 20 state FHA advisors took part in the five-day meeting, which prepared them to carry out “Wanted: Healthy Babies,” a national project of the FHA and MOD. “Wanted: Healthy Babies,” aims for a healthier next genera tion. To accomplish this, FHAers from each state will develop two-year peer education projects to reach a wide circle of youth in their own communities and throughout the state with health care information. The comprehensive workshop included discussions about genetics, legal rights of children, and the dangerous effects of drug and alcohol abuse to themselves and future offspring. Leading the sessions were an obstetrician, pediatrician, neo- natologist, psychiatrist, judge, and nutritionists. The FHA members also had an opportunity to talk with handicapped children, parents of children with birth defects, and teen-age mothers. Highlighting the meeting were workshops on communication. In addition to learning about good health care, the group gained a variety of communication skills which will help them get their message across to their peers. OUT OF THE MOUTHS of pup pets. Puppeteer Melvin Grier of Coiorado Springs and Ills friend Sam discuss the benefits of proper nutrition. Puppet shows are especially effective when teaching elementary school youngsters about health habits. MEI.VIN GRIER demonstrates the fine art of puppeteering. FHA members then produced their own puppet show. Other workshop groups learned how to use graph ics, audiovisuals, radio and TV sicits, and the-written word to get health care information out to their peers. This is a question that ruminates the hearts and minds of the small minority of students, faculty and personnell who attempt to live and encourage others to live consciously within the spiritual realms of Grod on our campus. One of the means initiated in 1974-75 was to encourage spiritual growth within each individual affiliated with Elizabeth City State University. This was the Bible Study Class. The class is meeting this semester each and every Thursday night from 7 P.M. to 8 P.M. in Room 101 Moore Hall. The first class session began with the acting University Minister - Rev. Maurice Pierre giving an overview of the books of the Bible. Since that time the class had discussed such things as the Psalms and faith. The Education Testing Service (ETS) reports several major changes in two national testing programs whose scores are used as part of the admissions process in many of the nation’s graduate schools. Both programs, the newly- titled Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) and the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE), together test more than 400,000 prospective graduate students every year. ETS says the changes were made to help simplify the test-taking process by making it more accommodating for student candidates. The GMAT formerly was called the Admission Test for Graduate Study in Business. The new name parallels a similar change in the sponsoring council’s name - reflecting a trend among graduate business schools to broaden their curricula and degree titles to include other areas of administration, as well as business. The program is developed and conducted by ETS for the Admission Council for Graduate Study in Management, a group representing 43 graduate schools of management. Another significant change in the GMAT is an expanded admission ticket correction form that allows the candidate to verify, and correct is necessary, the accuracy of the information he or she provided ETS on the registration form. Walk-in registration, established during the 1974-76 acedemic year, also will be honored, space and material permitting. There also are several new additions to the GRE. For the first time, a full-length sample GRE aptitude test is available to give candidates an accurate view of the scope of the test and the type Although, no more than a few people appeared at the first meeting, the class is steadily increasing. Let us challenge ourselves to come to the Bible Study Qass and to communicate openly with our fellow spiritual brothers and sisters in an effort to enhance biblical awareness on this campus. All of us have genuine and practical goals for our lives; but if close spiritual love and understanding are not part of those goals we will never reach them. So give God a chance to help you obtain your self-realization. questions it contains. The sample test is the same length and format as the currently used forms of the aptitude test, and contains questions previously used in past tests. An answer key is provided. The sample aptitude test may be ordered separately or as part of the Graduate Programs and Admissions Manual, which provides information about more than 500 institutions and their graduate programs. The aptitude test also has been shortened by five minutes from the former three-hour total. And an estimated additional 15 minutes of student time at the test center has been saved by soliciting background information on the registration form rather than at the center. For the first time, GRE candidates will be allowed at the time of the test administration to delete or change the list of institutions of which scores are to be sent. The GRE program also will continue to accept walk-in registrations, if center space and materials are available, and after all normally registered candidates have been admitted. Both programs emphasize that walk-in registration for the GMAT and the GRE are being continued to provide a needed service to candidates who are unable to preregister because of circumstances beyond their control. ETS administers the GRE for the Graduate Record Examinations Board, an independent board affiliated with the Association of Graduate Schools and the Council of Graduate Schools in the United States. In My Opinion... I. Q. Tests By Ronald E. Wood An I.
