Page 4 THE COMPASS May, 1976 KD Initiates Nineteen AKA theme: Service To Mankind The Kappa Delta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, an honor society in Education at Elizabeth City State University initiated 19 sdiolars during the 1975-76 academic school year. Twelve were initiated during tiie fall semester and seven dur&ig the spring. Smith The Sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. gave tribute to their sorority with a week of activities. With emphasis on religion and “service to mankind”, a vesper was spondored. Dr. Marcus V. Ingram, Chairman of the Business Department and a Brother of ^pha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. delivered an inspirational message. His theme was “Time is Running Out.” Several baskets of food and clothes that had been collected were given to a needy family in the area. The Sorors would like to thank each organization for making such a sacrifice to help others in the time of need. Chancellor Thorpe praised the work of the sorority in their effort to aid such a needy cause. The Brothers of^ Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. were given a special thanks for their assistance in making the program a success. Although attendance was small in body, it was big in heart. At the beginning of the week, a showcase was displayed in Moore Hall. It featured tokens, books, pillows, pens, a pennant, the chapter sweater, jewelry and other fine articles that belonged to the Sorors of Delta Theta Chapter. During this week, the brothers Alpha Phi Alpha and the Sweethearts of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternities had opportunities to eat dinner with the AKA’s alternately. Their table was decorated in pink and green and ivy leaves added that special tpuch. A campus Beautification Day was held and cards were placed on the tables in the cafeteria encouraging students to take their trays up after they finished eating. The Sorors really enjoyed their week and wish to thank everyone who made it so enjoyable and successful. Honor Society Chapter Holds Initiation Alpha Kappa Chapter ' of Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society held their Spring Initiation ceremonies on March 16, 1976 in Lester Hall. With the theme “We, Too Sing America”, a film “Still a Brother: Inside the Negro Middle Class” was shown to capture the true feelings of the changing times. The initiates were Dianne Boyd, Shirley Cooper, Agnes Hall, Lake Liverman, Sharron McNeil, Mary D. Ruffin and Andrea Williams. After congratulations from the members and comments from Dr. Louise N.Sutton, one of the advisors, a reception followed. DT’s Thankful The Sorors of Delta Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. would like to express deep appreciation and gratitude to the following organizations: Zeta Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi and Omega PSi Phi Fraternities for the thoughtfulness and hard work in making their annual Pastel Ball a success. The Alpha Kappa Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society initiated 38 scholars during the 75-76 academic year. Those students were enrolled in the different departments on campus. Thirty-one students were initiated during the fall and 7 during the spring semester. Janna V. Clemmons, Senior Social Science Major, and James R. Finch, Junior Political Science Major, repr^ented the Alpha Kappa Chapter at the National Convention in Memphis, Tennessee in mid-March. The officers for the 76-77 academic year are as follows: President, Harlie Davis; Vice-President, James R. Finch; Secretary, Patricia Rankins; Assistant Secretary, Joyce Terrell; Treasurer, Jennifer Dove; Reporter, Melvin Norman; and Miss Alpha Kappa Mu, Helen Elliot. Alpha Kappa Mu’s award to the fi-eshrnan with the highest academic average went to Carolyn F. Felton. Also to the sophomores with the highest averages who were Delores J. Jones and Katherine W.
