The first attempt at having Study At Boston University Boston, Mass.-(I.P.)— Boston University’s College of Engineering and Center for Energy Studies have developed a methodology for designing energy con servation programs primarily suited for in stitutional buildings. It in cludes the assessment of technical improvements of the building, changes in maintenance and operation policies, alternative energy technologies and educational aspects of energy con servation. The methodology was the result of a research project conducted by a student seminar. “The result of its application is an ordered conservation program in which savings realized from the first measures are used to underwrite the cost of later measures,” explained Michael McClintock, a research fellow of the Center and the professor who con ducted the seminar. “It becomes possible to pay for a part of the program out of cash flow rather than through capital fund raising. Many of the measures will continue to save, long after they have been paid for. An economically rational energy conservation program has the potential to provide some of the highest returns on investment at the present time.” A 100-page report written by the members of the seminar rates the proposed conservation measures in terms of a benefit-cost ratio. Benefits are described as “the present worth of future estimated savings in energy expenditures, allo'.ving for future estimated savings in energy expenditures, allowing for future exergy cost increases, less the present worth of any ad ditional operating and maintenance expenses the measure brings about, allowing for inflationary increases in these expenses.” The greater the ratio, the more economical the proposal. a church service on campus this semester will begin on Sunday, December 4, 1977 in Moore Hall Auditorium at 6:30 P.M. The speaker for the service will be Charles Boone, a freshman Sociology major here at the University. Dr. Davis Speaks Dr. Edna L. Davis, Chairman of the Music Department and Counselor of the Kappa Delta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society in Education on our campus, was the speaker for the early Fall meeting of the National Honor Society of Nor theastern High School in Elizabeth City. Using as her subject, “How Can You Get Ready?”, Dr. Davis advised the members to continue to pursue scholarly efforts, keep their values in proper focus, look seriously at the matter of choosing a career, and prepare themselves to be able to use leisure time in a re warding manner. She stated her firm belief that if students followed the four suggestions given, they would be ready to meet the challenges in Education, the work of work, and society in general. The members of the Society, many of whom are music students, were ex- temely demonstrative in expressing their appreciation for Dr. Davis’ remarks. The joined wholeheartedly in the period for comments and questions that followed.
