March 1978 Who's Who Selects Students The Compass, acknowledge the following outstanding students, who has been selected to Who’s Who Among Students in American University and Colleges, these distinguished in dividuals have been carefully screened by E.C.S.U. nominating committee and approved by the National Office, on the basis of their NAME Gallop, Cheryl Mitchell, Arthur Renfrow, Harold Batten, Carmen Bond, Georgia Bond, Ruby Boyd, Jennette Bryant, Dorenda Burke, Lois Felton, Carolyn Foxwell, Percy Gay, Eunice Holley, Ida Jones, Delores Jones, Montina Knight, Angela Lightbourne, Bethsheva Little, Mary Luckes, Kim Moore, Phyllis Overton, Katherine Pinder, Evelyn Reid James Shannon, Virgie Sims, Margaret academic achievement, service to the community, and leadership in ex tracurricular activities. Out of 1,600 students at E.C.S.U. 31 of them has been chosen to the 1977-78 edition of Who’s Who. CLOSING MOMENTS—A sermon by the Rev. Carroll D. Jenkins, one of three guest ministers to visit the campus, provided the closing highlights of Religious Emphasis Week. Rev. Jenkins, nephew of Dr. Edna L. Davis, Chairman of the Music Department, is a member of the National Board of the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., and is also connected with Black Presbyterians United. Black Executives Visit ECSU Elizabeth City State University’s Business Department will resume participation in the Black Executive Exchange Program (BEEP), from February through May 5. According to Dr. John H. Carson, Chairman of the Business Department, ten banking executives, loan officers and loans specialists will lecture during the course in Money and Banking currently taught by Dr. Saeeb Nizami. ECSU first participated in BEEP in 1975 when two lectures were presented. Dr. Carson indicated that this year each of the ten financial executives will lecture for two days, “making them selves available to all of our Business Administration and Business Education majors who might not be enrolled in the course.” The first lec turer, next month, will be Richard G. Gilmore, Senior Vice President and Controller in the Financial Management Department of the Girard Trust Bank, at Philadelphia, Pa. Tailored to augment and enrich the quality and quanitity of industry-related courses offered at black colleges and universities, BEEP is coordinated by the Nation Urban League. Providing a link between the textbooks theories and the practical application of business techniques and tools, BEEP is a method of providing students, faculty and college administrators with up-to-date information about job opportunities, business operations, policies and development taking place in the corporate world.
