Senior Seminar Panel Seminar Prepares Students For Tests By SUSAN FITZGERALD Dr. William Maurice Shipley is a new member of the Modern Languages Department at ECSU this year. Dr. Shipley graduated from the University of Il linois in 1973, where he had transferred from Aurora College (an Advent Chris tian College in a suburb of Chicago), in 1967. It had taken him only six years to earn his B.A., M.A., and his Phd. Dr. Shipley says his goal at ECSU is the same as the one he had as an English professor at Temple University. That is to work to his 'fullest potential, thereby enriching ESCU and its students. “Purlie Victorias,” which Dr. Shipley is direc ting, is scheduled to begin its performance before the Christmas break. By SHIRLEY D. CHERRY The Senior Seminar was established at ECSU in September of last year to prepare students to take the National Teachers Ex amination. Dr. Harry J. Ghee, of the ECSU Department of Education said he would like to see students develop a more professional at titude in various teaching areas. Ghee said he feels students should become more profesional and con cerned earlier. The seminar, he said affords that environment so students can develop the necessary skills for pass ing standardized tests. Ghee said, initially the senior seminar was design ed as last minute effort to help to prepare for the Na tional Teacher’s Examina tion. But now we want to open it up to other level of students. He said that the advantage of taking the seminar is that students become aware of skilled and activities related to teaching standarized test. Specialist from each area of discipline vist the senior seminar and gives students pointers on special things to look for in their area. Two standariz ed tests have been given to students for practice in taking these type of tests. ECSU Education Depart ment has compiled institu tional information siginifi- cant to courses and content consideration for teacher education. The disadvantage of not taking the test is lack of awareness of basic skills necessary for taking stan darized test and the mechanics of test.
