Thanks, Public Information Office Staff VOTE BY Darlene Gallop Four years ago this November, Black Americans played a critical role in helping put Jimmy Carter into the White House. The pace was close; it could have gone either way, but 94% of Black voters chose to support Carter, and the election was his. Without our vote, Jimmy Carter might stUl be the Governor of Georgia instead of the leader of the most powerful nation on Earth. Today, four years later, the Black vote has become a crucial and very powerful factor in national politics. Our 10 million votes can make a president or we can break one. “Carter knows it; Reagan knows it, and YOU ^owittoo.” Your vote is important and your vote is powerful. This is the ‘black power’ we should strive for. DO NOT WASTE IT! Use your vote wisely. Study the candidates. Learn their positions on the issues that affect Black people most- -jobs, the economy af firmative action. And then be sure to cast your vote in the November elections. . If you do not, you will be giving up your right to choose how you want to spend the next four years. We can not tell you whom to vote for, but we can tell you that a Black vote is a powerful vote. After all, four years ago it helped change history, and this year jve do it again. Remember Brothers and Sisters the saying is true; “We either hang in there together or we simply ^ang!!!
