' 1 li 111 I University Players Present HOTL BALTIMORE NOVEMBER 11,12,14 at 8:15 PM LITTLE THEATRE ADMISSION FREE Good Luck Opening Night The Compass and Modern Languages Department SHCW IZ!.. “THE HOT L BALTIMORE” TO BE PRESENTED AT ECSU “The Hot 1 Baltimore,” Landford Wilson’s award- winning play will open the current drama session of the University Players at Elizabeth City State University .The comedy- drama will have a three performance run scheduled for November 11th,12th,and 14th,Thursd ay, Friday, and Sunday evenings at 8pm in theLittle Theatre,located in the G.R.Little Library on the ECSU campus. Winner of the New York Drama Critics Circle Award,‘‘The Hot 1 Baltimore”became an ac claimed television series in the mid-1970s.The play,which deals with zany and colorful residents of a run-down hotel,was considered “an unbeatable winner” by the New York Times. “A war- m,intelligent,wonderful evening in the theatre,” proclaimed the Village Voice. The ECSU production is being directed by Shawn Smith,an assistant professor and head of the University’s drama program.Smith,a former professional actor,has appeared on Broadway in “Moonbirds” with Wally Cox and in several off-Broadway productions with such notables as Dustin Hoff man,Bonnie Frankli’n,and Joan Rivers.He has taught at North Carolina Central University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Several Elizabeth City residents will be seen in major roles.Ed Duke,head of the French division at EC SU,will portray the craggy Mr.Morse.Duke is well known to local audiences for his acting with Albermarle Players and the CCA Satyrs.He was seen recently as Major Ketchun in“The Oldest Living Graduate.”K.C Harney, a Northeastern High School graduate and an ECSU junior,will appear as Mr.Katz,the hotel manager. Other major roles will be played by Editha Perkins as the Girl,Emory R. Seipio as Bill Lewis, Burdette Johnson as April Green,Tannya Hemingway as Jackie,Ricky Lee Jones as Jamie,Nell McCollough as Millie,Gary Wayne Savage as Paul Granger,Tracy Hoggard as Suzy’s John,Michael Nickerson as the Cab Driver, and Richard E. Forte as the Delivery Boy. While the play is both funny and sad in its portrayal of contemporary America, the language of the script makes it unsuitable for children. The settings and lights for “The Hot 1 Baltimore” are being designed by David Raper, and Kenneth L. Lanier is production stage manager. Admission is free.
