Kaleidoscope Dr. Ghee Opens the New Game Room Kaleidoscope YIVGI YWCA OF THE U.S.A. , NATIONAL BOARD ASKS RECALL OF VIDEO ‘GAME’ AS RACIST/SEXIST New York City, October 18 — The National Board of the Young Women's Christian Association of the U.S.A. voiced its opposition to the racist nature of an adult video game,“Custer’s Revenge,” as it met at the Prince George Hotel. In a letter directed to Stuart Keston, President of American Multiple In dustries, Inc., Northridge, CA, Mrs. Jewel Freeman Graham, national president, and Mrs.Sara-Alyce P. Wright, national executive director of the YWCA, stated that “we trust that the strong objections to this ‘en tertainment’ item by responsible groups will cause you to recall this ‘game’ and thus make it unnecessary for us to take further action.” The two national YWCA officials comment in their letter that “it is a sad sym bolism in our society when the sexual overpowering of an Indian woman in this suggestive manner con tributes to the cotinuation of a racist-sexist society.” Composed of more than 2,000,000 women and girls in 435 community and student Associations throughout the country, the YWCA has as its One Inperative the deter mination to thrust its collective power toward the elimination of racism wherever it exists and by any means necessary. by Curtis Jackson There’s a new game-room in the ECSU’s Uninversity Center. The “Kaleidoscope” was named by Ms. Rene Anderson on August 29. There was a trophy awarded to her for naming it. The Kaleidoscope is run by Mr. Charles Foster and Mrs. Gertrude Pierce. Mr. Foster says,“It’s coming along very well. As a result of the video games, attendance has tripled from day one.” It’s a place where students can go and spend some of their spare time. It can also help cure some of those “home-sick blues.” Games in the Kaleidoscope are Space Invaders, Astro Blaster, and Pac Man. Some ping-pong tables and pool tables are there too. There are a variety of table top games on hand also. There will be a juke-box installed with up-to-date records soon. Students are allowed to bring their radios in now, but must keep them at a reasonable volume. Students seem to like the “Kaleidoscope” and all it’s contributions.“Problems are very limited,” states Mr Foster. One such problem is profanity. Students are asked to refrain from using profanity in the Kaleidoscope. He states that everything else is all right. Remember, the Kaleidoscope is for your benefit, not the Univer sity’s.This is your home away from home; take' pride in your community. If you would like to come to the Kaleidoscope, but don’t know how to play the games, there are classes every Tuesday night at 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the University Center this semester. The following classes and instructors are Mr. C. Foster, Backgammon; Mr.Harry Lewis, Spades; and Mr. Lawrence Wright, checkers.
