NE^S ihuuut s Back Again In the first issue of “The Compass” I made the an nouncement that funding cutbacks would limit our issues to one per semester. However, due to the support of the administration we are able to wish all of the University Family a Merry Christmas in print. I would like to say a special “Thank You” to everyone for their help, advice, and ideas toward the production of the first November issue. The staff felt proud of the results of long hours spent working on the paper. The entire Modren Languages Department stood by us through all of our fears and doubts of our first unexperienced attempt to print a worthy campus paper. Judging from the positive comments from the faculty, administration, and students we feel we made it. Anyone can be a leader or captain of a team, but without the support of the team you will accomplish nothing. I feel fortunate;! have the support of a great team. Happy Holidays to All!!! Lynette Gutridge Editor 9 Attention The opinions that appear in this issue do not, necessarily, reflect my attidues towards ECSU. However, as a vehicle for student statements, I feel that I must try to accurately present all facets of university life. Hopefully, all opinions given will be directed to making this in stitution the best possible. We welcome opinions from the faculty and administration, as well as, the student body. Correction Michelle Millef wrote the ROTC article that appeared in the November issue. Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger Jackie Johnson was to busy fryng burgers to cook up a story. by. R.J. Walker The Student Government Association has been working closely with the the Pan- Hellenic Council and The Interfraternal Council this semester. Their main ob jective is to uphold high academic standings and high social status on and beyond campus life.In the past this has been lacking, but this year there is a great sign of an upswing in these men tioned areas. Also in the past these organizations haven’t been to closely associated with the S.G.A.,but this year surely has provened dif- frently. These organizations have taken notice of their leadership responsibilities and are successfully displaying leadership qualities. S.G.A. President, Charlenzo Belcher feels very positive and pleased with the way each organization is working together. “We feel that The Pan-Hellenic Council and The In terfraternal Council are extremely cooperative compared to the past organizations. We have all worked together very closely and have built an atmosphere which is very close and cooperative in every sen se,"says Belcher. The Pan-Hellenic Council is an organization composed of all the Gree.k organizations on campusj The president of The Pan-Hellenic is Howard Pipkin. The Interfraternal Council is composed of Greek and non-Greek organizations its president is Roy Wilson. As we all know at the helm of The S.G.A. is President Belcher. Still on the Move by R.J. Walker Recently I have been in formed that The S.G.A. is in the process of rewriting our school’s constitution as far as student affairs are con cerned. S.G.A. President, Charlenzo Belcher says,‘’The rewriting will mainly concern up-to-date matters, em phasizing on now issues which were not present in the past. The S.G.A. is extremely interested in supporting the newly organized “Viking Ambassadors;’’ An organization composed of student recruiters. The Viking Ambassadors is a pipeline that has never been here before. This organization should be very successful, for no one can recruit better than the students themselves. We all wish this organization the very best of luck! The S.G.A. is in the process of forming a workshop composed of various studecampus leaders and their staffs. The main pur pose of this workshop is to keep everyone in tact with today’s issues and prepare we the student’s for the challenges that await us after graduation. Academically the S.G.A. is trying to make our foreign language courses a larger part of our curriculumn. As of now the foreign language courses are only electives, but The S.G.A. wants these courses as required courses. This change would make the students of E.C.S.U. more marketable after graduating. So, as we all can see the Student Government Association is really on the move in many different areas, trying to make this campus better for all academically and socially. We all should be proud of the way our S.G.A. is carrying on and give them our full cooperation.Thank You Carol & Petes & Dicky-do, Hazel, Hden, Boz and Boo Oh, yes let’s not forget others who tvoidd surely fret: The Duke & Venus & Shatmy-poo, Haywood & Yvonne & Robert too.
