ECSU Career Day by Algie H. Mabry,Jr. As the month of September draws nearer, Mr. Steven Reinharsten, is busily finalizing plans for Career Day ’83. September 22,1983 is the scheduled date and the lobby area of Vaughan Center is the tentative site. Participating is this year’s Career Day will be businesses and firms throughout the Pasquotank area including Wachovia Bank, All State Insurance, and Food Lion. Other corporations extending beyond the regions of Elizabeth City will be present to give insght on what one can expect when searching for employment. Also representatives of the various departments on campus will be there to an swer questions concerning their curriculms. “This is a great opportunity for new students who are undecided about their majors,’’ said Mr. Reinharsten. In addition to the above that will be at the Career Day, area high school students have been invited to come. According to Mr. Reinhar sten, this is an excellent chance for these students to see what Elizabeth City State University is like as well as see and hear what type of occupations they may pursue in the future. Career Day ’83 is being sponsored by the Office of Career Placement and Planning in which Mr. Reinharsten is Director. The ECSU Corporate Cluster Program with Mr. Gerald Tyler serving as Chairman, says Reinharsten, is also sponsoring and assisting. Away New ^VANS^ on Campus Submitted by Dr. Olive Wilson and Mrs. Brenda Creecy Elizabeth City State University’s new students for the 1983-84 school year found that their initial acquaintance with the campus was much smoother with the assistance of the “VANS,” Vikings Assisting New Students. The “VANS” were selected through a voluntary ap plication process and were interviewed by a committee. Their help proved to be in valuable in assisting new students by providing campus tours, disseminating vital information, coor dinating recreational ac tivities and helping with placement tests. The “VANS” program is under the auspices of Student Affairs with Dr. Harry Ghee serving as Vice Chancellor. It was created by Dr. Olive Wilson, Chairperson of the Orien tation Committee and coordinated by Mrs. Brenda Creecy, University Coun selor.
