Johnson Specializes in Good Food A graduate of Shaw University, with a B.A. in Business Administration, Johnson has been in the food services business for 12 years — the last 4 at ECSU. He has had extensive experience in food management, including stints at Tuskegee Institute, Wake Forest University and UNC-Chapel Hill. Johnson is an employee of ARA, a company which provides a wide variety of services to many institutions. ARA provides efficient management of the cafateria and snack bar, but the University maintains the buildings. “Though ARA must make a small profit, our main consideration is serving the students,” Johnson said. Johnson’s warm concern is immediately noticeable. “I love to work and communicate with students. I am willing to listen whenever any student wants to talk about the food served here,” Johnson said. Work-study students staff the cafateria and another group of students work with Johnson to provide a catering service for the University Center. Johnson advises students considering careers in food services that it is a very good business. “Managers and chefs are highly paid,” Johnson said, “but you must have patience and dedication.” What kind of place should the cafateria be? According to Johnson, it should be a place to “escape from class pressures, to let off steam and to meet friends. I would like the food services at ECSU to be second to none.” by Ricky Wilkins News Editor Rosemond Panda, Assistant Periodical Librarian completed requirements for a Masters of Education Administration Degree (M.Ed.) at East Carolina University in Dec., 1983. Panda started working in the u.R. Little Library about three years ago. She earned a B.A. at the University of the District of Columbia in Communicative Arts and a Master of Library Science from Atlanta University. “Education is a continuous process, and to me, one has to change his or her intellectual battery to keep abreast of new developments in the academic environment,” Panda said. Panda’s Second “Failure to be knowledgeable and to open up your intellectual circuit to face the challenges and relate in a dynamic society can be very costly. One has to keep striving for excellence in whatever you do.” “It is very hard for a family person to work and undertake advance academic work. With a strong determinate and a purpose in life and with the cooperation of your partner, one can make it,” Panda said. Panda believes the degree does not make a person, the person makes the degree through his or her performance. The Library staff can give all the help with the resources available to students, but the staff cannot do the work for the students. Students must be held accountable to do greater portion of the work. There were stumbling blocks in front of him. And pitfalls everywhere to draw him in. A race isn’t won by the swift or fast. Earn $500-plus each school year. Call toll-free 1-800-243-6679. by Angie Doles March 22, the first day of Spring, marks a time when everyone dons colorful clothing. Color not only reflects the seasons, but also, a number of events and the general spirit of people. Certain colors of clothing denote different meanings. Most people wear clothing that makes them feel attractive. Women of the ’80’s, for instance, wear loose, lightweight clothing. Like the weather, clothing styles constantly change, and people choose to wear clothing that is suitable for the prevailing climate. For example, skirt lengths are constantly altered to suit the current climate of popularity, the preppy look is present in all climates and the punk-rock fad will pass like yesterday’s storm. Remember, fashions change daily; today’s style may be tomorrow’s folly. The fashion outlook is not yet known for this Spring, but come by Moore Hall auditorium - April 4 - for a peek at some Spring fashions. Be sure the way you dress suits your individual personality. Above all, when today’s style goes out of fashion, keep it in good condition. The same style will probably be popular again.
