The Compass - ftage 4 Campus Briefs Algood joins faculty Dr. B. Dexter Algood joined the ECSU faculty at the beginning of the spring 1987 semester. A native of Pe tersburg, Virginia, Algood comes to ECSU from City College of New York where he has taught for the last four years. Algood’s primary responsibility in his posi tion is to coordinate the addition of a recording studio to the music department. However, he will also be respon sible for several classes. Allgood, who completed his undergraduate studies at Virginia State University, his masters work at the University of Minnesota, and his doctorate requirements at New York University, says he finds ECSU a “pleasant change from the hustle and bustle of New York,” and is excited about the new re cording studio for the university. “I feel there is a tremendous need for on-site training of students in this field and very few universities offer this training. ECSU will be set apart from the others in the training.” Turnage Recommended to National Board Dr. Curtis D. Turnage, Chairman of the Biology De partment at ECSU, has been unanimously recommended by the Extramural Associates Program Advisory Board to participate in the Extramural Associates Program at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. This program is a special adaptation of the opportuni ties available under the Inter-Governmental Personnel Act which promotes the participation of minorities in NIH sponsored research. During his five month visit, Turnage will become familiar with programs, mechanisms and special requirements of the NIH. Other tasks will include participation in program management, planning, review and analysis, seminars, site visits and written documents. Turnage, born in Halifax, N.C., received his B.S. De gree in General Biology from ECSU, his M.S. from Vir ginia State University, and his Ph.D. from Howard Univer sity. White appointed to State Personnel Committee Joseph S.
