By Kenneth Valentine, Jr. As far this year’s volleyball team is concerned, Coach Debbie Lynch faces some of the same problems she faced with last year’s team. “We have the same number of players,” said Lynch, “and we’re not any bigger or any smaller than in past years.” “Also, we have a lot of new people with no experience,” she added. Despite these problems, Lynch said she is hopeful atout this year’s team. “We’ve been working hard every day in practice,” she said, “and we have b^n improving on our weak points. I expect to achieve our goal for this season; to be one of the top four teams to represent the Northern Divi sion in the Post-Season Conference Toumament.”The tournament will held in Hampton, Va., during the last weekend in October. , Lynch said she had two starters “We've been working hard every day.. .and we have been improving on our weak points.” Coach Lynch from last year’s team, which went 13- 10, and two lettered starters. Lynch said her only senior, Erica Ruffin, “is taking the leadership role for the team.” However, Lynch said Ruffin has had to miss much practice time since her professors have not been under standing about letting her miss class. “When she misses practice, it will reflect on the team,” she said. The Vikings’ overall record is 3-6, and 3-2 in the Conference. Pointing out that all games have been in Vaughan Center, Lynch said attendance “is not as good as I would like for it to be.” However Lynch added that she has been pleased with the turnout, and welcomes “the fans to come out” “Admission is free,” she said. On Tuesday, Oct. 2, the Vikings hosted the Virginia State team. “The Vikings played a very in tense game,” said one fan, “and the fans were all in there together, giving lots of support. They had the support of everybody.” Although the Vikings won the first two games, they lost the last three, to lose the match. The winner of the match is determined by whoever wins the best three out five games. The Vikings hosted the Fayettville State Broncos Tuesday, in a double match, which the Vikings lost. Maybe your definition of success is a good starting salary. Maybe it's more. 33sigiimGnts.
