The Compass Tuesday, May 4. 1993 13 Snoozin' Photo bjf Jody RiJiiiek M m 1^^ Shawn Lane, an ECSU student, takes a snooze in the University Center on a recent rainy afternoon n>omentum to win the tournament "until acoachingdecision changed theattitudes of the players." The Viking criticized Cullen for show ing "favoritism." In response to these criticisms, Cullen said, "Criticisms are part of a coaching job ®nd you aren't going to please everyone 'vith the decisions that are made. If a player has a problem with a decision I have made they should come and talk to n^e about it." Cullens said he and assistant coach Darryl McCallop made decisions to gether. "I don't run a dictatorship in my base- ^I program," Cullens said. "I have an open mind and I am willing to talk to my players. I haven't had any players to talk to me about the decisions I've made." Several players were also critical of the selecbon of the QAA team. The CIAA voting was disappointing because we had a couple of guys who 'vere quite deserving making the AU- CIAA team," said Albritton. "Instead, there were two surprises. How can three white guys make an AU-CIAA team at a predominantly black University? "We had one of these guys who really deserved the award, but I have to ques tion the other two choices." The Vikings had three players to make the AU-OAA team SeniorJeffCreef made the first team as a pitcher; junior centerfielder Shavm Biggsbie made the second team; and Brian Biggs, a sopho more, made the second team for desig nated hitter. "Jeff wasoneof the top three pitchers in the CIAA," said Cullens. "Shaun batted .395 for the year. I felt that Shaun should have been a first team selection; his of fense was the best on the team. Brian had a good year for us and he batted .368 for the season aiKl he played catcher as well." Cullens said he is pleased with the team's performance. "Overall, we had a good year. I wish we had won more games, but with a young team making it to the finals shows how much heart the team had." The Compass wishes a speedy recovery to Mr. Tommy Faust: Good Luck and God Bless
