In addition to modeling clothes, contestants also had to field questions and display their talent. ECSU Choir to perform at Broad inauguration On April 29th, ECSU will celebrate the inauguration of Molly Corbet Broad as the 15th president of the University of North Carolina System with a re ception and dinner at the Kermit E. White Center. The reception and dinner, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., wiU be followed by a tele cast viewing of the inauguration, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The event, whose themes are "ben efits of higher education in North Caro lina" and "President Broad's direction for the UNC System," will feature a taped message from President Broad. Invited guests include board mem bers, facialty, staff, student representa tive, state and local officials, business leaders, alumni and retirees. The inauguration, in North Ccirolina State University's Reynolds Coliseum, will be the apex of a two-day celebra tion that involves faculty, students, staff and alumru from every UNC campus. Offerings range from art to music, and most events are open to the public. Many UNC campuses are planning special viewing peuties on the evening of the 29th. During the convocation a top faculty member from each UNC campus will be honored with the fourth annual Board of Governors Awards for Excel lence in teaching. The 16 recipients, representing nu merous academic disciplines, will re ceive bronze medallions and cash awards of $7,500. ECSU's past recipients are Dr. Louis Green, a professor in the Department of Education and current associate vice chemcellor for academic affairs; Dr. Johnny Houston, a professor in the Department of Mathematics, and Dr. Rachel Gragson, a professor in the De partment of Music. ECSU's fourth winner of the award will be armounced by the Board of Gov ernors. In the weeks leading up to the inau guration, a juried art exhibit featuring students works from every UNC ceim- pus will be on public display in the main ballroom of the NCSU Student Center. On the afternoon of April 29th, Eliza beth City State Uruversity's Choral En semble, directed by Professor Billy C. Hines, will perform during a musical variety revue at North Carolina State University. UNC-TV will provide statewide cov erage of the event beginning at 7:30 p.m. on with a special edition of North Carolina Now. tr T Franklin Scott, Jr. photo Hope Jones, the new Miss ECSU, is a sociology major who believes Americans have "strayed away fi-om the Bible." She won the April 2nd election with 79 percent of the vote.
