On September 29, the Elizabeth
City State University Lyceum
Concert Series kicked off its
1999/2000 season. This year's
series opened by showcasing the
talent of vv^orld class pianist
Andreas Klein.
Klein's presentation in the
Moore Hall Auditorium was one
of rare artistry. With his back
straight and fingers arched, Klein
captivated the crowd with his
musical prowess.
His selections for the program,
ranging from 17th-20th century
pieces, displayed the extensive
musical palette with which Klein
works. Whether he played classic
selections from the masters—Bach,
Beethoven, Chopin—or the more
recent spirited composition from
Alberto Ginastera, Klein's key
strokes conveyed all of the emo
tional content within the
composition.
Klein showed the audience how
each piece was intended to be
played, and his exceptional dem
onstration concluded with a gra
cious standing ovation from the
audience.
m
Andreas Klein was born
Berlin, Germany, where he first
began playing the piano. After
his musical studies there, Klein
migrated to America and later
graduated from the Juliard School
of Music. Since then he has
toured extensively and played in

and the United States.
