12 The Compass March, 2000 News Notes Compiled by Stacy Brock GlobalMECCA GlobalMECCA (www.globalmecca.com), which is the Internet's premier websource targeting African- Americans with smart content and tools and resources that enrich their professional and personal lives, announced its new 'Partners in Em powerment' program to help Historically Black Colleges and Universities establish and grow their online presence and increase Internet use by students. The websource has six content channels which focus on business resources, community and culture, and careers and mentoring. GlobalMECCA will offer this program to the more than 100 historically black colleges and universities across the United States. Playstation welcomes the WuTang Clan The rap group Wu Tang Clan brings its brand of Kung Fu fighting action to the playstation game. The game is entitled Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style. It is a multiplayer arena- based fighting game with an urban vibe that challenges players to battle as one of the nine Shaolin warriors advance -as in ancient Chinese tradition-through the 36 skill chambers of martial arts. Taking the role of one of the Wu Tang Clan, including RZA, Ol'Dirty Bastard, Method Man and Raekwon, players must master an arsenal of attack moves, multi-hit combos, taunts, fatality kills and counter attacks unique to each warrior. The game is available in North America retain stores and carries a suggested price of $49.95. Senior Packets Available Senior credential packets are now available for pick up. Seniors graduating in May 2000 should pick up their packets in the office or Career Services which is located in the H.L. Trigg Building in room 103. The deadline for pickup is April 10, 2000. Scholarships for TV/Film Students The Charles & Lucille King Family Foundation awards scholarships of up to $2,500 per year to junior and senior level students studying TV and or film. The Foundation's goal is to reward under graduates who demonstrate outstanding academic ability, professional potential and financial need. Application materials must be submitted by April 15. Career Opportunities in the Broadcasting Field The National Association of Black College Broadcasters will hold its 22nd annual Black College Radio Convention in Atlanta, GA April 21-22, 2000. CIAA 2000 Stompfest The CIAA 2000 stepshow competition, sponsored by Saint Augustine's College & Earthquake Productions, was held in Raleigh, NC on March 3. Sororities and Fraternities who participated were Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sigma Gamma Rho, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta, Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma and Iota Phi Theta. Technology Workshops for Students The Academic Computing and End-User Support Services will hold a technology workshops for students. Army ROTC offers Scholarships The Army ROTC is offering a two-year scholarship to individuals who demonstrate the potential to become an Army officer. Persons interested in the scholarship must attend a five-week training program that will offer experience and the examination of the Army without incurring an obligation. The training program is free and there is no cost or commitment for participating in the program. Healthy Intervention Program On Thursdays at 3pm student health services will be conducting parenting seminars that will cover breast feeding facts and myths, information about how to control your weight throughout pregnancy and quick and healthy meals and snacks for you and your baby.
