12 Monday, April 23, 2001 The Compass Viking Spotlight Dear Vike, I have a huge dilemma. I am a senior quickly approaching graduation, and at this point, I am still unsure about my future endeavors. Recently, I at tended the Career Fair and I must say it was disappointing to enter and to not have any options pertaining to my major. I have no desire to attend gradu ate school at this time, and I am not sure of what I want to do. I know that I want to enter the work place however, I don't know how to find a satisfying job or career when I am uncertain of what I want to do. Please help. Unfocused at ECSU Dear Unfocused, As far as the Career Fair, you must realize that opportunity does not re ally knock-you have to make things happen. The Career Fair is not for ev eryone; it's just a fvinction of Career Services. In case you don't know. Ca reer Services is the office located on campus designed to address any spe cific needs that you might have in ad vancing your career. But generally, there are three basic things you need to do to make things happen. First, discover what it is that you want, to do. When you make that discovery, write it down for reference. The second thing you should do is take what you discovered about yourself and list step by step all of your plans to make that happen. That's where goal setting and planned progress comes into place. The final and most impor tant thing you should do is to take action. Once you have your ideas and objectives in front of you, you'll then be able to make your plan a reality. by LaQuisha Tisdal Torri Saleste Ruffin is from Windsor, NC. Student Gov’t Association 2001-02 President ICeisha Ferguson Continuing the Tradition of... 01/05/04 45150 Best Wishes, Honoring Tradition, Destined for Change Sista to Sista Chrishanda Rodgers cIove66@hotmail.com Living in today's world, there are many things that we want, and it seems that we just have to have these things as soon as possible. Some of us will take extreme measures to retrieve these desires. Hey ladies, how far will you go to get the things you want? Believe it or not, there are many ex tremes a person should take to get the things they want. Maybe an extreme measure will be working two jobs and going to school full time to have the car you want and to live the lifestyle you desire. Yet, there are other extremes one should never take to achieve a goal, particularly strong sophisticated women. So look at it this way ladies, say one of your short term goals is to get a cellular phone or even a car. The posi tive thing to do is to work hard and build your credit to own these types of luxuries. An extreme measure that some women seem to take is the, I hate to say it, is the "gold digger" approach. Let's get something straight, accepting gifts from someone is fine, but if you are being scandalous to get the gifts, that's wrong. You should only accept gifts if you appreciate the giver, that way the gift will definitely mean more to you. Another extreme measure a woman should never take is having sex with sorneone to receive what she wants. It is better to work hard and earn the things you want to have. If one de cides to have sex with someone just for a gift, they are basically lowering them selves to a level of prostitution because they are selling themselves for mate rial things. Women doing this may very well be dealing with some self-esteem issues. A woman should want to work hard for the luxuries she wants. It is all right for the one you love to shower you with presents because you honestly love him and he honestly loves you. Women today are independent and we can now buy our own clothes and get our hair done for ourselves. We are women of high standards, and we don't have to take dishonorable measures to seek the things we deserve.
