PAGE SIX THE NEWS ARGUS MAY, 1968 Deltas Sponsor Activities, Elect New Officers The traditional May Week began for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority May 1 with a chapel program “A Versatile Delta”. Dorothy Pearson began the program with a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King. Gail Owens then sang “I Have A Dream” backed by the other mem bers of the Sorority. Glenda Sims was the mistress of ceremonies who introduced the skits, songs, piano solos, and creative dances. The Pyramids then sang “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” The show ended with the Deltas singing “Delta Call”, “What’s Your Name”, and “The Sweetheart Song”. The Deltas sponsored a Greek Sing-In around the plots May 2. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority join ed the Deltas to provide an en joyable evening of music. The audience seemed to enjoy the var iety of songs presented. The week ended with the Deltas singing around their symbols May 3. 34 Ivies Inducted The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority has inducted 34 members into the Ivy Leaf Club for the fall line. They are: Wanda Adams, Carrie Alston, Amy Anthony, Robertha Brown, Alice Canady, Jacqueline Craig, Fannie Davis, Vehna Dick erson, Teresa Dillard, Doris Ep person, Patsy Faucette, Betty Floyd, Burmadeane George, Mary Hagwood, Rosaylyn Hill, Cassie Hillard, Faye Houpe, Yvonne Hunt, Susan Jenkins, Loretta Jones, Josephine Langston, Lillian Long, Luevora Nicholson, Joanne Powell, Sarah Rutherford, Cheyanne Smith, Margaret Sweat, Felicidoll Thomas, Irma Thompson, Delores Wadsworth, Delores Wagoner, Ve ronica Washington, LaVerne Whit- ted and Patricia Wray. These pledgees have been very active in community projects Their activities have included a car wash, voter registration and campaigning for Reginald Hawkins and other candidates. The sorors of Alpha Kappa Al pha are very proud of the Ivy Leaf Club and are looking forward to a very impressive and beautiful line in December. Omegas Say Farewell The men of Mu Epsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity are terminating another school year by bidding farewell to all. Before closing, we would like to welcome into the realms of Omega, two newly tried brothers, Howard Mebane, a sophomore from Bur lington, N. C., and Robert Massey, a sophomore from Charlotte, N. C We say congratulations and good luck to our graduating brothers, Biffy Watt and Joseph Askew. May success be ever with you. We are looking forward to an other school year. May your sum mer be pleasant and profitable. Vaya Con Dios! —Ernest Clemons Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was well represented in the WGHP Talent Hunt, May 2. Motown brought the Supremes to our own campus in the person of the Con stellations. The renditions “Check Yourself” and “Sweet Inspiration” were well received by the au dience. The Constellations, Carolyn Buey, Ann Dubose, and Iris Gore, will appear on Channel 8, May 25 to compete with talent from other colleges. Regional Conference The South Atlantic Regional Con ference will convene June 6-8 in Columbia, South Carolina. Lasenia Howie and Gloria Herring, dele gates to the convention, are look ing forward to that week-end. May 4 Primaries Members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority were very significant in the May 4 Primaries. They assist ed the many other volunteers in handing out literature to the voters as they approached the polls to vote for the candidates of their choice. Officers The slate of officers for the com ing year are; President Lasenia Howie Vice-President Barbara Still Corresponding Secretary Wilam Thaxton Recording Secretary _ Gail Owens Treasurer Loleta Horton Journalist Myrtle Hargrove Sergeant-at-Arms ^ Lillian Hoggard Chaplain _ Betty Cooper Parliamentarian Gloria Herring 'V Day Students Organize Day students of Winston-Salem State College met in Fries Audi torium at 11:00 a.m. on Wednes day, April 24 and formed a Day Student Organization for the school year 1968-1969. Two representatives were chosen to represent off campus students in the Student Government Associa tion. They were Larry Butler and Robert Anderson. The main purpose of the Day Stu dent Organization is to keep the day students well-informed of cam pus matters. Other officers elected were; An- drais Lawrence, secretary; Las- cenia Howie, assistant secretary and George Ledbetter, treasurer.
