The ceremonial proceedings took place at 6:00 P.M. in the Hauser Student Union ballroom. Beta Kappa Chi is the National Scientific Honor Society and strives for the advancement of scientific knowledge, for accuracy in scientific research, and for proper dissemination of scientific information gained through research. The initial part of the induction ceremonies consisted of a secret ritual through which all new inductees must pass. After the ritual had taken place, the inductees were sworn in and were allowed to shake the hands of old members of the organization. The new inductees were biology majors Patricia Fennell, David Gaston, John Lee, and Edith Parrish. Math majors inducted were Henrietta Howard, and Sylvia Johnson. Old members of the organization included Dr. Jacqueline Shepperson, Ms. L. Oliver, Dr. Nathan Simms, Dr. Sandra Kerr, Mr. Jordan, Mr. Terrell, Mrs. Williams, Harrison Sturdivant, and Blonnie Yancey. Officers for the organization are president Sharon Thompson, vice-president- James Moore, secretary-treasurer- Patricia Smith, and reporter- William Ardrey. A dinner was served to all of the members following the induction ceremonies. Fried chicken was featured, and German chocolate cake was served for dessert. A brief history of the Beta Kappa Chi organization was given by James Moore following the dinner. William Ardrey, Reporter Political Science The Political Science Club is sponsoring a week of educational, political activities that will be geared towards informing the community about various agencies and their roles. “Community Involvement Week” began on March 10 and will continue through March 14. Wednesday, discussion will be centered around the Veteran’s Administration. Do you know your rights? On Thursday, the representatives from the Legal Aid Society will answer this question as well as others in this program. Friday, the role of the Black Panther Party Free Ambulance Service will be discussed by speaker Charles Zollicoffer, former SGA president here at State.
