Sketch of New Maintenance Building.
Sunday, April 6, 1975, faculty,
parents, students, and friends
merged for the dedication of the
Kenneth R. Williams Auditorium
and Sculpture Garden.
The new auditorium was
dedicated in honor of Kenneth R.
Williams for his service,
dedication, and his many
significant contributions to the
continuing growth and
development of Winston-Salem
State University.
The new auditorium is a
beautiful multi-level brick and
steel structure located at the
main entrance of the University.
The auditorium has a main floor
and balcony with a total seating
capacity of 1800 persons.
The Sculpture garden being
built in conjunction with the
auditorium was a gift from the
Hanes Foundation. The garden,
specially landscaped for the
display of sculpture, will cun'e
around the right side of the
building. Sculpture by con
temporary black artists will be
added to the garden as it can be
purchased.
Being without an auditorium
for five years the new structure
should prove to be a valuable
asset to the University.
Various activities were
planned for the auditorium. April
8-15 the University Fine Arts
Festival was held, Count Basie
and his orchestra was included in
these activities.
