Here To Serve You
Dear Students:
Freshman taking care of BUSINESS.
It is a pleasure to extend a
cordial welcome to all of you who
are attending Winston-Salem
State University. I hope that your
days at Winston-Salem State
University shall be pleasant and
full of meaning.
Since your purpose in being
here is to continue your
education, you will need to devote
your full time to studying with as
few interruptions as possible. We,
in the Student Affairs division,
are devoted to your mental and
physical well being. We are here
to help you develop to the full
extent of your abilities. This is
easier said than done. Were you
the only student here, it might not
be necessary to develop a Student
Affairs division. However,
whenever as many as two (2)
people live in close proximity,
they have to develop certain
understandings between
themselves about their conduct.
These understandings have to be
developed even in a small family.
As the number of people grows,
the complexity of group living
increases. At Winston-Salem
State University, there are
approximately 2,000 people living
in a very small area;
consequently, it has become
necessa^ to establish a number
of guides for successful
completion of your college
career. You would do well to
become totally familiar with all
literature pertaining to such.
There are people here who are
ready, willing, and able to help
you with your college and career
goals— included among them
are: Director of Admissions,
Director of Recruitment,
Director of Placement and
Career Counseling, Director of
the Counseling Center, Chaplain,
Dean of Men, Dean of Women,
Director of Financial Air,
Coordinator of Student Activities,
University Physician, and the
Director of the Student Union.
It is my request that you please
bear with us on certain
inconveniences found around the
campus. Please be aware that
our residence hall program is
under complete renovation.
Construction will begin on a new
dormitory during this year. In the
meantime, please be tolerant of
our over-crowded situations and
satellite residence program.
Remember, it takes time to
acquire and construct a two-
miUion dollar building. Your
cooperation will be greatly
appreciated.
As head of the Student Affairs
division, I stand ready to assist
you in making your stay at
Winston-Salem State University
gratifying.
