Dick Gregory Captivates Crowd At WSSU
An evening with Come-
dian-lecturer Dick Gregory
proved to be a most inspiring
experience for the hundreds
of people who crowded into
the Kenneth R. Williams
Auditorium on Tuesday
evening to hear this man
who has devoted himself to
the cause of human
liberation.
The crowd welcomed
Gregory with a hearty
standing ovation which was
indeed due because Gre
gory’s lecture was an
informative spark that was
needed to awake the crowd
to the unpleasant realities
affecting Americans every
day.
Gregory began his lecture
with a comical introduction
that produced roars of
laughter from the audience.
Widely known for his role as
a professional comedian,
Gregory revealed his superb
ability to accomplish two
tasks in one. He prepared his
audience, as he stated, for
something heavy by getting
them in the mood. And what
better way than by letting
them laugh at themselves.
In revealing his serious
side, and calling attention to
the perplexing problems that
are facing Americans today,
the humanitarian comment
ed on three domestic issues
that the Carter Administra
tion have been requested to
take immediate action on.
“The new administration
under the leadership of
President Jimmy Carter
must take immediate action
to make sure that the
assasinations of President
John F. Kennedy, and Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. are
properly investigated. They
must also study the current
weather patterns in this
country in relationship to
reports of weather modifica
tion techniques. Thirdly, it
will be the job of these new
leaders to make public the
various government experi
ments that secretly use
human beings as subjects.”
Gregory says he will
continue to stress the
importance of the current
special investigation into the
deaths of Kennedy and
King, by continuing a fast
which he began on the day of
the Presidential inaugura
tion. In a January telegram
sent to President Jimmy
Carter, Dick Gregory stated
the following: “Millions of
Americans are questioning
the confusing and conflicting
government reports sur
rounding the deaths of
President John F. Kennedy
and Dr. Martin Luther King,
Refunds Requested
This semester a great
many students tried to get a
meal ticket refunds because
they believe it is cheaper.
The students obtained doctor
excuses stating they could
not eat in the dining hall.
However, some members
of the administration feel
some of the excuses are void
because they do not state
adequate medical reasons
for not eating.
Students feel the food
should be better and there
should be a better way of
paying for meals. They pay
for three meals a day even if
they do not eat all three
meals.
Dr. Wilson, Director of
Student Affairs pointed out a
new system had been
discussed before Christmas.
The system discussed was
“chit books.” These are
booklets that are payed for
monthly. The students pay
for each meal because the
booklets are similar to
money. However if the
booklets are lost, it is the
same as losing twenty-five or
thirty dollars. The booklets

Jr. Both the public and the
press are anxious to see the
results of this new investiga
tion which will hopefully
reveal the truth surrounding
both of these deaths. I
cannot begin to stress the
importance of this latest
exploration, but I sincerely
believe that in order to
preserve freedom and de
mocracy, the citizens of this
nation must be told the
truth. This can only happen
if the special committee is
allowed to take whatever
steps are necessary to
complete its inquiry. I will
personally express my con
cern on this matter by giving
up conventional food until
which time the accurate and
undisquised truth is reveal
ed. I have begun a fast on
which I will consume only
liquids, and 1 will remain on
this fast for as long as it
takes the committee to bring
the truth to the American
People. It may take months
or even yers, but I make this
sacrifice in hopes of raising
the consciousness level of all
the new members of our
Dick Gregory
administration.”
On the subject of weather
modification, Gregory says
he believes scientists have
used various techniques to
cause adverse weather
conditions across the United
States. In the summer of
1976, Mr. Gregory ran from
Los Angeles, California to
New York City to dramatize
the critical food situation in
this country. His “Bicen
tennial P^ood Run” as it was
called, brought attention to

the problems of hunger,
starvation, and the need for
a new cabinet post. Gregory
advocated the need for a
Secretary of Food and
Nutrition. “This person
would work independent of
the Secretary of Agriculture.
The job would entail working
directly with small farmers
and the millions of Ameri
cans who suffer because of
high food prices. ' In 1975
Gregory had information
