Page 4 - The News Argus - April, 1977 Day Students Are You Aware? Poetry Corner Running From The Devil The Day Students of WSSU are faced with a problem. Either they are not aware of the special services and help that they can acquire in the Enrichment Center or they just do not have the time to take advantages of it. Perhaps there was a time when Day Students had to go home and talk to big brother or big sister about certain problems in their school- work, but now this is passed. Instructors, tutors, and advisors in any department are willing to help students with problems in any field of study. They have the time to listen, but you must take the time to ask. The Day Students need to be familiar with the Enrichment Center because it is an aid to those students who cannot return to the dorm to study. Scholastic Achievement is a must at WSSU, and Day Students must put forth effort to become scholars. In case you are not fsimiliar with the Enrichment Center and their materials, here is a brief description of what you can expect to find. The Enrichment Center is located in the basement of Carolina Hall. It must be entered from the northwest or the basement level or by the west stairs. The Enrichment Center is opened from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday and close at 5:00 p.m. There is a tremendous amoimt of equipment avail able you can use. This equipment includes filmstrip projectors, (silent and sound), filmstrip viewers, film loop projectors 8mm, motion picture film projec tors, 16mm, sUdes carowod projectors, record players (monowall and stereo), video-tape recorders, (mon- awjdl and stereo) reel-to-reel recorders, cassette record ers, television, typewriters and calculators. Wouldn’t it be nice to take advantage of this equipment? Students who use the Enrichment Center, must follow certain rules. Stu dents may obtain material (staff members and student aids assistance) from the resource room and use it in the area. Students are allowed to check out materials for classroom presentations the hour before it is to be used. It must be returned imme diately. There is an exception, however, student teachers may check out material for ust in public schools with the approval of the supervising instructor. Students are permitted to use the tapes that are provided, but are advised to ask for assistance if they do not know how to work them. Students must also return the tapes to the same place they got them. Staff members are avail able to help you if you need academic assistance. Staff members are also willing to talk with you about personal problems. Staff members are friends who care and want to help you overcome any problems in any study or otherwise. Student tutors are willing to help you at £iny time that they are schedviled. Tutoring is free. Just think! You learn so much and pay so little! Remember, tutors care about you too. It is their job to help you when you feel you can not help yourself. Take advantage of their services. Day Students, this is a call to you. Campus students are aware of the Enrichment Center. Mrs. Constance Johnson, head of the Enrichment Center, recently visited the dorms and told students about the Enrich ment Center. Because of the wide distribution of Day Students it is not likely that they all are aware of the center. Day Students should use the Enrichment Center because they, like campus students, are entitled to it. Day Students should realize that the time has come when they have to take advantage of their rights and privileges. Believe it or not, the Enrichment Center is your right and privilege. Day Students, the time has come. Running From the Devil Part III Although it’s been a while Since I’ve conversed with you, Sit down and let me tell you. What that Satan tried to do. Now, I'm one to boast, And never one to brag, But Satan still can’t get me. I know that hell’s a drag. Now I have been so happy, I really don’t know why. But Satan’s been a-looking 'Trying hard to make me cry. He couldn’t get my soul, So he started on my mind, And as he used his pressure, Peace — 1 could not find. Our trip to Philadelphia, Now Satan met us there. And long before we knew it, His harshness filled the air. The Civil War years is similar to Margaret Mitchell’s Gone With The Wind. During this section of the novel, a whole way of life that had been perpetuated for years abruptly ends with Sherman s final “March to the Sea” and the surrender of the Confederate States. The Spirit of God Was everywhere! On what a night Oh what a time the Saints had in His ntune,* And Satan just bowed out the way. He knew he could not heing!
