Friday, September 29, 1978
proved to be quite a day on the
Winston-Salem State Univer
sity campus. Following the
Inauguration of Chancellor H.
Douglas Covington, several
students joined him in the
Kennedy Dining Hall at 5:00
p.m. Dr. Covington shook
hands and conversed with
well-wishing students and
faculty members. Many
people were surprised to see
him. He had previously can
celed an appearance at an
earlier event, due to last
minute schedule changes for
ffc:
security reasons.
Aspecial dinner consisting
of fried chicken, roast beef,
potatoes, rolls, and a choice of
two vegetables was served.
Deserts consisted of cherry pie
and sheet cake. It was
attended by approximately
four hundred students and
faculty members. This num
ber was far below the usual
number of people served for
dinner at Kennedy Dining
Hall. Many students had
taken the opportunity to leave
town for the three-day holi
day.
Guests, students, and faculty
mingled together exchanging
greetings as they enjoyed
their meal proving it to be a
gala event.

They’re out to get you this
year, you know.
They’re out to pay you back,
But you’ll have to show them
once more
That you don’t allow any slack
They’re going to try and make
you look bad.
They’ll try to show you up,
But you’ll show them you’re
better than before
And come back with the
Gold Bowl Cup.
