The Brothera of Ki^>pa Alpha PsI Instructors Receives Grant Dr. Lafayette Parker, vice chancellor for academic af fairs, has announced that three faculty members from Winston-Salem State Univer- ttty have been selected for the Mud of Governors Faculty ■Ktoral Study Assignment J^rds for the spring semes- «r of the 1978-79 academic year. The awardees, who will receive their full salaries while studying, are Mrs. Adnee Bradford, assistant professor of English, who will be study ing at the University of Ne braska; Mr. Rober L. Morris, assistant professor of music, who will be studying at the University of Iowa; and Mrs. Rebecca Nail, assistant pro fessor of English who will be studying at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. There were seventeen a- ward recipients throughout the UNC system. Communicat ion Dept. Expanded by New Instructor Viveca L. Thomason Assignment Editor The bright new face in the Communication Arts Depart ment is that of Mr. Clarence W. Thomas the Communica tion Arts instructor. His pre sent teaching duties include; teaching Introduction to Com munications and Fundamen tals of Speech classes. In addition to being the present coordinator for Mass Com munications courses, he is in charge of the radio and tele vision stations located in the Comm uniciitions "building. His ideas for expansion and development are exciting. He is concerned with providing students with practical know- Open Sesame! By WUlIam S. Fulton Editor-In-Chief Many of the students and faculty members of Winston- Salem State University would like to imagine that a simple command, “Open Sesame,” could cause the new Commu nications Building to become magically completed and o- pened for business. This is the atmosphere that surrounds the new building on campus. The Communications Building was formerly sched uled to open for the 1978 Fall Semester. Due to hold ups in con struction, it is now tentatively scheduled to open for the Spring Semester of 1979. The new building ipromises to provide WSSU student! with more in-depth training and experience in the field of mass-media communication. The major emphasis of the Communication Arts program will be radio/television and journalism/public relations, ome of the specialized areas of the complex will be a televi sion studio, an FM radio station, a 260-seat multi-me dia lecture room, a 45-station language and speech labora tory, audio-viosual class rooms, and individualized a- reas for study. TGhe spring semester should also see the addition of courses in communication. Next semester the department of Communication Arts tenta tively plans courses in Funda mentals of Journalism, Intro duction to Broadcasting, and Introduction to Mass Commu nication.
