By News Argus Staff The Winston-Salem State University Alumni held a banquet in honor of Richard C. Erwin, Judge, Court of Appeals of North Carolina on WSSU’s campus. Mic key Michaux, U. S. Attor ney for MIDDLE District Court in North Carolina was the keynote speaker for the occasion. Mr. Michaux said that Judge Erwin has helped to “bridge the gap between scientific and moral pro gress”. He said that “we must have a true revolution of values and re-establish the moral ends of our lives ...” He concluded by saying we should seek” ... a genuine revolution of values that extends loyalty to mankind.” A special plaque was pre sented to Judge Erwin by Winslow Lowery, alumni director, WSSU Alumni Association. Judge Erwin thanked everyone for participating in the affair and promised to continue to work with citizens and maintain fair ness and impartiality. Figaro Opera To Be Held By News Argus Staff Figaro here. Figaro there. Figaro where? Here. Figaro, the resourceful Seville barber, will display his talents as a matchmaker when he and other resi dents of the Spanish town take over the stage at Reynolds Auditorium at 8:15 p.m. on Friday, Febru ary 16, 1979. The Winston-Salem Urban League is sponsor of this single performance of Ross ini’s popular comic opera “The Barber of Seville” performed in English by the North Carolina Opera. Tickets are available at two locations. They are the Winston-Salem Urban League in the Pepper Buil ding, Suite 405, 102 West Fourth Street and the Arts Council Box Office at 610 Coliseum Drive. The North Carolina Opera, the parent company of which is now in its 30th season, has assembled tal- entged singers from across the country for this perfor mance. The singers will be backed by a 12-member chorus, a full orchestra, and a beautiful set. Thomas J. Elijah, Jr., the Urban League’s president^ said, “The prime purpose (of the sponsorship) is to develop audiences for the arts. we’re hoping the entire community will part icipate.” “The Barber of Seville” has had universal appeal for audiences. The barber Figaro and the charming Count Almaviva team toge ther, use a variety of disgu ises to outwit Dr. Bartolo, the guardian of the young and comely Rosina, his ward, and win Rosina’s hand for the Count. Those joining the faculty are George Alston, visiting assistant professor of socio logy; Linda Greene, instr uctor of business; Ronald Greene, visiting instructor of English; Beverly Kemp, instructor of natural sci ence; Christina Meyer, ins tructor of nursing; and Dr. Rosamond Putzel, visiting associate professor of Eng lish. I WSSU Seeks Players By Debra McClain Staff Reporter Head football coach Bill Hayes recently announced the recruitment of twenty- two of the nation’s top High School football players. The players were carefully selected by the football coaches at Winston-Salem State University. Accord ing to Coach Hayes, several factors influenced the sele ction of each new recruit. Among these factors were academic standing, educa tional needs, and football records. The new recruits are: linebackers Dillard Thom as, 6 ft. 1 inch, 215 pounds, from Armstrong Hill High School, Richmond, Va.; Jerry McCollough, 5 ft. 10 inches, 205 pounds, from High Point Andrews High School, High Point, N. C.; and Maurice Harris, 6 ft. 1 inch, 195 pounds from Thomasville Senior High School, Thomasville, N. C.
