Page 8, The News Argus, March, 1980 Play Is Sad And Comical Answers to Puzzle From Page 7 Act one, a Sunday morning in Harlem, opened with testimony service where various hymns, shouts, and lamentations toward God were sent up. Reverend Margaret, played by Karen Johnson, gave a typical ‘rip-snorting, hell-raising’ sermon in front of a full congregation. In the congregation were: Margaret’s sister, Odessa, a very pious character, played by Vanessa Williams; Margaret’s son, Uavid, a typical confused 18 year old, played by George Jones; Ida Jackson, a young bride with a sickly child, played by Cindy Cook. The Elders of the church were: Sister Moore, played by Tracie Hunter, Sister Boxer, a prudish unchristianly ‘lady,’ played by Octavia Gibson, and Brother Boxer, soon to be a “liquor truck” driver, played by Kenneth Headen.
