Page 2, The News Argus, October, 1980 7 The WSSU Alumni Association Welcomes You To Homecoming ’80 WSSU Is Ram Tough Winston-Salem State University HOMECOMING SHOW Featuring SOS, CAMEO, AND CHANGE Winston-Salem Memorial Coliseum Tickets: $5 before the day of the show $7.50 at the door Culture Association Plans Conference By Renee Wilkins The Popular Culture Association in the South will have its Ninth Annual Convention October 16-18 at the Hilton Inn in Winston-Salem. This conference is hosted by Winston-Salem State Universitv. The Popular Culture Association is an organization which brings together scholars from small colleges and universities. These scholars share an in terest in a number of areas such as American studies, anthropology, black studies, fine arts, linguistics, literature, psychology, sociology, history and political science. This is the first time this meeting is being held in North Carolina and the first time it is being hosted by a predominately black institution. Chancellor Covington, Mayor Cor- pening, the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce, the North Carolina School of the Arts, Salem College and Wake Forest University have expressed their support for this upcoming meeting. Two Winston-Salem State Universi ty faculty members are serving as leaders of the association. Sociology professor. Dr. Ralph Von Tresckow Napp, is the president and psychology professor. Dr. Claiborne B. Thorpe, is the local arrangements chairman. Winston-Salem State University faculty members, Drs. Lacy G. Hall, William Rice and Mr. Robert McCon nell will also present their ideas on various topics. New Yorker Wins Title From Page 1 and personal appearance and on general taste, color coordination, and physique. The amount of confidence each contestant showed on stage was also evaluated. Each contestant was asked a philosophical question to test his alertness, and quickness to give a straight and logical answer. Ms. Elaine Browne was co-ordinator for the Mr. Ram pageant. Also, assisting Ms. Browne, was Oscar Beal, and Lawrence Mebane. Music Director was Mr. James Simpson. Judging the pageant were, Mr. J.Y. Bell, Ms. M.P. Browne, Ms. Paula Larke, Mr. William McGee, Mrs. Yvonne P. Mc Call, Ms. Cynthia Perry, and Dr. Sullivan Wellborne. To compete for the title of Mr. Ram, a grade point average of 2.0 and 15 semester hours were needed. The pur pose of the pageant is to help uplift the student body’s morale.
