Seniors To Choose
Graduation Speaker
By Shara Burt
The senior class is presently deciding
on who they would like to recommend
to be its speaker for Commencement.
Among the five candidates being con
sidered are entertainers Sidney Poitier,
Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Bill Cosby,
and former Assistant Secretary of
Education (when it was a part of the
Department of Health, Education and
Welfare), Dr. Mary Berry.
Selection of the speaker will depend
upon the amount of money granted
from the Battistone Lecture Series
Foundation and the Student Govern
ment Association. The foundation
grants money to several universities for
the specific purpose of financing guest
speakers. After the money is granted
and a recommendation is made, Dr.
Covington will then extend the in
dividual an official invitation.
Graduation is set for May 17, 1981,
in the Winston-Salem Memorial Col
iseum. The time has not been set.
