Page 24 "1 Businesses Flock To WSSU For Career Exploration Day by Sam Davis Career Exploration Day at WSSU this year was one of the most well-attended and informative ever at the university, accor ding to Mrs. Nancy Sosnik, director of Career Services. “From all of the feedback I’ve gotten, everyone has said that it was a very wor thwhile experience,” says Mrs. Sosnik. “We had good participation from students, faculty and administration, as well as from businesses that are interested in hir ing WSSU students,” A total of approximately 50 companies were on campus to speak to students con cerning opportunities with their businesses or others that are closely related. They gave out pamphlets, talked to students about the procedure for obtain ing positions in their respective fields. The event was sponsored by the Career Development Office and co-sponsored by the Business-Industry Cluster, Student Government Association (SGA) of WSSU and the campus chapter of Delta Sigma Pi. “I would like to give special recognition to both the SGA and Delta Sigma Pi,” says Mrs. Sosnik. “Those two groups of students worked really hard to make the day a success. They did everything from setting up schedules to serving as personal hosts and guides for our visitors. They did a terrific job.” Barbara Fultz, a personnel specialist from the City of Winston-Salem, talked to numerous students throughout the day and said she thought career day was a success. “I think it was very interesting,” she said. “The students asked a lot of questions and came prepared.” Another personnel specialist from the ci ty of Winston-Salem, Chiquita Lee echoed Ms. Fultz’s comments. “Student participa tion and interest was very good,” said Ms. Lee. “I thought it was a very well- organized event.” Richard Jones, personnel director from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, also agreed that Career Day was well- organized. “The Career Development Of fice did a very good job,” said Jones. “People really came out to talk with com panies and firms.” Jones also said that WSSU students had very cheerful attitudes and “a sincere desire to get information by asking questions.” Mrs. Sosnik says that although this year’s Career Exploration Day was a suc cess, plans are being made to have even more companies on campus next year. “The only complaint of our students was that we did not have enough different types of companies represented,” she says. “Next year, we will try to expand on that number.” She also says that WSSU students are well-respected by the business communi ty. “Most of the visitors said that WSSU was one of the friendliest campuses they had ever been on,” she says. “They were really impressed with our students who they characterized as very considerate and friendly.” SEASON TICKET EATING ^RINKING If you love the sporting life, you'll love RJ's.
