Page 29 Sara Plans To Make Dreams A Reality By Chiquita Colson There is a definite goal which man seeks to procure. The fulfillment of this goal is two-fold; the individuals self-motivation in securing his goal and the institution which he feels is worthy of this attainment. Thus, his place in society is a mirror reflecting how well he has utilized the opportunities set forth by the institution. Of all the situations in which Student Alumni Relations Association (S.A.R.A.) members and alumni are asked to res pond, the challenge of success is by far the most exacting. There are indeed many worlds ' to conquer. These worlds may range from the immediate goal of gradua tion to the ever present challenges of life itself. For some, the challenge may be to fight and sweat in the swamp of a far-off coun try defending what they believe is right. For others, the duty is to inquire and tread into the horizons of whatever is still unknown. Still others may be the task of going through the world as self-appointed ambassadors of good will, trying to per suade others that friendship is better than power, that justice should be tempered with mercy, that happiness excels wealth, and that love is greater recognition. A reunion is a special gathering. This is a time of seeing people that you have not seen in a long time. Let us now look ten years into the future. It’s that time of year again. Time for 1993 homecoming reunion for all alumni and former S.A.R.A. members. The alum ni and S.A.R.A. members are coming back to their alma mater, Winston-Salem State University. Among those who graduated since 1983, there are those who par ticipated in S.A.R.A. with great en thusiasm. Janet Tisdale, Cynthia Ingram, Todd Mclver, and Lisa Gordon, were a few of the active S.A.R.A. members of 1983-1984. Janet Tisdale, graduate of the class of 1987, is now a medical technologist at the University of Pennsylvania. Janet states, “As a medical technologist, I greet people everyday. While in S.A.R.A. one of the important things stressed was communication. S.A.R.A. is one of the largest organizations on campus. S.A.R.A. enjoys seeing people come back from year to year and reunite again. Mr. Daniels, S.A.R.A. advisor at the time, encouraged all S.A.R.A. members to the upmost. So once again I say, thanks to Mr. Daniels, I will surely continue to con tribute in any way possible for S.A.R.A. is a great organization.” Cynthia Ingram, graduate of 1986, is now a special worker in Charlottesville, Virginia. Cynthia is also the proud wife of Eddie Murphy. While at WSSU, Cynthia was a verv active member of S.A.R.A. Cynthia states, “As a social worker I am a service to my community and hopefully, I’ll be helpful to my community. I would like to encourage each and every S.A.R.A. ftiember to take great interest in this organization. You will find that your ad visors will be willing and ready to support you. To all to support you. To all S.A.R.A. members, I encourage you to take at least five minutes of your time to contact an alumni member from your state or hometown. I am willing to donate a hun dred a year and now I present a check to S.A.R.A. for one hundred dollars. S.A.R.A. keep up the good work.” Todd Mclver, active member of S.A.R.A., is now the leading surgeon at Brooklyn Memorial Hospital. He now resides in North Babylon, New York. Todd states, “I would like to encourage the young people to take interest in S.A.R.A. and work hard in this organiza tion. For the reward is plentiful, S.A.R.A. helps all WSSU alumni and students to keep in touch. I would like to donate $100,000.00 now and $1,000 a year to S.A.R.A. If it wasn’t for S.A.R.A. I would not have met my present employer who pays me $500,000.00 a year. Thank you S.A.R.A., and good luck.” Lisa Marie (Gordon) Johnson, president of S.A.R.A. 1983-84 school year, now presides in Columbus, Ohio. Even though she’s a school teacher, Lisa has just open ed up a home for the mentally/physically handicapped. Boy, am I excited!!! Lisa states, “I would like to advise the present S.A.R.A. members to keep in touch with all alumni, not necessarily from your home, but all across the country. You never, maybe that alumni you contacted will someday find you a job. Most impor tant rer ber, never put down anyone regardlest uf what and who they are. You must realize that you have to meet the same people on your way down.” Of course, all former members of S.A.R.A, weren’t available for interviews, but those who were gave great enthusiasm to all. Even though homecoming is described as an annual celebration attend ed by alumni, according to Webster’s Dic tionary, it is also a celebration of togetherness among WSSU alumni, students, and loca - students as well. Through the years all of the S.A.R.A. members have gone their separate ways. It seems that alumni members have reached their goals in life, and it was truly “outstanding” of them to take time from their busy schedules to come to homecom ing to reunite. Well, as the saying goes, once a RAM, always a RAM. It is not just a dream, they plan to make it a reality. GO RAMS t iBl Shop Mother and Daughter For Your Homecoming Needs.'.'
