Page 6 Campus, Community, Career Page Jeffries Heads SUBP-1984 by Charles Frazier Q. How many of you knew what the Student Union Programming Board does on the campus of Winston-Salem State University? A. It plans various programs and activities for the students, staff and faculty at WSSU as well as for the community of Winston- Salem. In this issue of the News Argus Darrell Jefferies, president of the Student Union Programming Board will be interviewed. News Argus: How did you obtain the posi tion of Student Union Programming Board? Darrel Jeffries: Elaine Brown and her staff got together and votes on other people including myself. N.A.: What is the primary duty of the Stu dent Union Programming Board president? D.J.: To get students involved in all ac tivities and program. To increase the in volvement of the students in all programs and activities, and to give them a say so in the types of events that they want offered. Hopefully it won’t bring about any negative feelings because they’ll be getting more or less of what they asked for. I also keep a steady relationship between the SGA and students. The Student Union Programming Board is one of the few organizations on campus that is run totally by the students. We tiy to help out with events in every area on and off campus that deals with the students. I also want to point out that I make sure all my departments utilize their talents and those of the students involved with us to make things happen, and to get things done. I keep in touch with all records and with our treasury. I keep abreast of all SGA events and are in tuned with student life. N.A.: What departments are found in the SUBP? D. J.: The departments are entertainment and fine arts, special events and program ming, ideas and issues, recreation, films, dance and publicity. These departments are designed for the student’s interest. These departments coincide, well, work with each other a great deal and a lot of times two or three departments will have to get together just to do one simple function. For example: The dance, publicity and special events departments will have to come together, just to do a special dance that someone is having. N.A.; What are your plans for the re mainder of the school year? D.J.: There’s no telling...the sky’s the limit. There is already a schedule of calen dar events circulated. We’re going to have dances, films, and other events in the mon ths to come.
