Why would a young lady choose to run for
Miss WSSU?
“I feel that being Miss Winston-Salem
State University will give me a chance to
use the qualities I possess and the qualities
WSSU possess...”
These are the words of WSSU’s 1985-86
Queen Rita Ramona Archer, a 21-year-old
English Education major and Mass Com
munication minor from Scotland Neck, N.C.
She is the daughter of Shirley Zickuhr of
Ridgewood, N.Y.
She is President of Dillard Hall, Miss Beta
Iota of Alpha Phi Alpha, a Alpha
Sweetheart, a member of the Mozik Model
ing Troupe, Music Librarian for WSNC-FM,
and a member of the Yearbook and News
Argus Staff.
After graduation she would like to teach
English or be a journalist. “I would
later like to go to graduate or law school,” .
states Miss Archer.
When asked the question, what is one
thing that you would like to see happen to
WSSU doing your reign? Miss Archer said,
“First, I would like to see more student in
volvement along with concerns for their
school and themselves. Second, I would like
for the faculty and staff to realize why they
are here and what they are here for. Third, I
would like to see the students come together
and demand what they want, because we
make up WSSU.”
Miss WSSU is working along with Miss
Senior, Wanda Darby and Miss Junior,
Denise Norwood on plans for the upcoming
school term.

Joy Bridges Elected New SGA President
by Joyce Standfield
Johanna Bridges, an English Education
Major from Greensboro, North Carolina is
WSSU’s SGA President-elect.
She’s excited about her new position on
SGA and has held other jMsitions on the
SGA. Those positions include Ad
ministrative Assistant and Director of
Financial Affairs.
Neither position can equal the position of
President.
Ms. Bridges stated that her day to day in
volvement with the SGA and learning how
things work and how to get things done is
one thing that prompted her to run for presi
dent.
“With one of the main concerns of the
students being co-ed visitation, I’m going to
look at different plans for co-ed visitation.
I’m going to examine co-ed visitation on
other campuses (predominantly black cam
puses and white campuses). From the
results we are going to try to implement a
workable plan on this campus,” explained
Bridges.
Bridges would also like to thank everyone
who supported her before and during her
campaign.

Carter Cue Elected SGA V.P. 1985-86
by Rita A. Archer
Carter Blakely Cue is a junior English
major and the son of Billie M. Carter of
Durham N.C.
Cue ran for the position of vice president
of SGA because he had observed a lot of
things that affected the students. He felt
that the student body needed someone to
voice their concerns to faculty and to help
the students become more aware of the pro
blems they face daily.
He hopes to lessen the large percentage of
student apathy on campus. He believes that
after this has been accomplished then no
obstacles will inhibit our student tx)dy from
achieving there goals both educationally
and socially.
Cue’s hobbies consist of researching cer
tain aspects of Black History and Africa
American History, running and playing
basketball.
He holds membership in Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity; the Student Union Program
Board; Marching Rams Band; and is a
Resident Assistant in Bickett Hall.
His plans after graduation consist of
graduate school and media or public rela
tions work.
