Male/Female
Relationship
Seminars Prove
to be Successful
by Rita R. Archer
The Male/Female Relationship Seminar
Irecently held in Brown Hall was sponsored
]by the Student Union Programming Board.
The seminar was presented in a panel
Idiscussion format. The members of the
Ipanel included Alisa Wilson, Carter Cue,
Icawn Hand, Joy Bridges, Craig Johnson,
Iwayne Artis, Wayne Richardson, Kenchay
■Wilson and Coach Davie Sheppard.
I Before the discussion started Coach Shep-
Ipard invited members of the audience to ex-
Ipress their opinions and reminded them
Ithat no question was stupid. From this point
Ion, sparks began flying.
I Questions such as; Are men intimidated
■by powerful women? Why do the young men
Ion this campus find it hard to relate to a
lyoung lady? and Why do young men find it
■hard to make commitments? were asked by
Ithe audience.
In answering these questions the discus-
Ision went all the way back to our African
I ancestors. Do men inherit or adapt to male
I behavior when it comes to women? We may
1 never know.
Why is it so difficult for the young men of
IwSSU to commit to an honest relationship
■with a young lady? What is honesty was one
lof the highlighted topics. To some, honesty
Iwas having only one girl, giving straight
Iforward answers, being understanding and
lhaving respect. And to others it depended on
Iwhat type of honesty because they were not
|totally honest in all aspects of relationship.
Why don’t we have any true men on cam-
Ipus? The men felt that all men on WSSU
■were not dogs. But there are some females
Iwho are not to get what they want also,
lespecially those materialistic ones.
I The discussion of Co-ed visitation arose
land the students wanted to know why didn’t
■they have it and they wanted to know if any
Ifaculty members were in the audience. Dr.
iMandeline Scales, was present and explain-
led to the students the problems visitation
I had encountered. She further explained to
■ them that lack of cooperation from the
■ students was one of the major downfalls of
I coed visitation.
There was a continuation of the
I Male/Female Relationship Seminar in
I Atkins Hall on April 23rd. Both seminars
I were successful and hopefully there will be
I other related discussions in the near future.
