Page 4 Faculty Member Participates In Apartheid Protest By Yolanda Jones Dr. Elwanda Ingram, a member of the faculty, here at Winston-Salem State University is just one of many concerned citizens who protested against apartheid by demonstrating in front of the South African Embassy in Washington, D.C. on September 9, 1985. Dr. Ingram and 49 other North Carolina residents participated in the protest against apartheid by giving their support to a group of concerned citizens called “Churches Against Aparthied.” This group is a part of The Synod of North Carolina, Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. Although Dr. Ingram is not a Presbyterian, she offered her support by participating with this group. They hope to show that the people of South Africa are human beings and have rights just as others do. The group participated in a worship ser vice instruction on protest and the actual protest. The purpose of the group was to protest, not to get arrested. Although we are all aware of the apar theid situation in South Africa, Dr. Ingram feels “we can show our support by writing to our senators and withdrawing our sup port from organizations who lend their sup port and money to South Africa.” Not only were North Carolina residents protesting, but concerned citizens from across the nation have been demonstrating at the embassy since Thanksgiving Day 1984. n tWv', ; RYTHING’S ON SALE with this coupon Just bring it in and receive a 20% discount on EVERYTHING you want for your apartment or dorm: Wicker furniture, accessories, framed prints, giant matted posters, candles, dinner- and glassware, designer silk flowers & vases, decorator brass, an amazing collection of baskets, novelties, and much, much more! *Valid through October 15, 1985, on all regularly priced merchandise in stock. My Feelings By Beverly McFadden My feelings are like vapors, seeping through the pores of my skin, poisoning my body, mind and spirit. Oh how mangled my whole being is. I cry for an antidote; my tears can not be seen, nor can my cry be heard, for my tears have turned on me, leaving the evidence of my suffering spirit upon my face. My pain has turned to fire, and all that I am, and all that I can be, is no more than molecules that have scattered in the wind.
