Page 7 I You Are What You Eat! By Carter Cue The average American consumes untold amounts of pork during iiis life time. Pork or the swine does not contain the nutritional values to sustain life effectively. For the person that eats bacon at breakfast, a bologna sandwich at lunch and pork chops at dinner some bodily catastrophe may be taking place without your being aware. What are the liabilities of eating pork and other pig-by products? Some of the effects of pork consumption are hardening of the arteries, yellowing of the eyes, obesity, stiff joints, bad breath, hypertension, high blood pressure, heart attacks and many numerous ailments. The pig serves no purpose as a source of clothing or as a source of food because his liabilities are numerous. The pig; 1. Eats anything chewable, which in cludes rotten garbage, human and animal refuse. 2. Is immune to venom of poisonous snakes. 3. Has a tube in foreleg which oozes pus and other cellular debris - this explains why sausage, ham, and bacon are greasy before and after cooking. 4. Contains the trichinella worm; a microscopic parasite which is able to take up residence in any part of the body and cause many of the ailments mentioned earlier. Trichinella can even survive in a corpse. One wise man said you are what you eat, so if you eat pork three square meals a day you begin to eventually look like three squares. These are various parts in the foods found in the supermarket, that we are not aware of. In the Jubilee brand sausage you have pork heart, pork lips, pork snout, and other scraps. Country people that eat souse loaf are consuming pig lips, snout, tongue, and other animal scraps. Bologna and hot dogs contain pork stomach, tongue, and other scraps. The doubtful person may claim the chicken is just as filthy as the hog but from a medical standpoint the pro-pig viewpoints doesn’t hold water. They leave their shoes out for the kings to leave the presents in. by Karla Barksdale News Editor Athletes Foot If you have a dry, scaly rash between your third, fourth and fifth toes, you pro bably have a fungal infection called Athletes Foot! Athlete’s Foot is simple to treat. Powder your socks in the morning, apply a fungus cream at night. The powder, cornstarch, talc or a special fungus powder keeps you feet dry, which is a plus, since fungi thrives in moisture. One tip: apply the cream ; before you go to sleep and then put on a t clean pair of socks. ' To avoid all of this in the first place, keep ‘ your feet clean and dry. Wash and then dry I between your toes daily, finish off with a ^ powder. I j Party With Care ^ You may be able to fend off hangover - f; headaches by being selective about what I you eat and drink when you are partying. Cheese will reduce the irritating effect of f. alcohol on the stomach, which produces I nausea and vomiting that come with the [' hangover. Drinking liquors low in con- f: geners (molecules produced during distilla- i tion and aging) can also keep your hangover j at a minimum. i Try the Hot/Cold I Approach f A headache can sometimes be stopped dead in its tracks if you take a hot shower and follow it quickly with a shivering cold one. The hot shower may incrase the pain by temporairly expanding blood vessels, but this paves the way for fast relief when the cold shower contricts the vessels. This provides an opportunity to reduce and , ultimately omit medication. I Tea for Teeth t Dental floss combined with a toothbrush, I and toothpaste, sounds like a complete set > of at home cavity fighting tools, right? It’s ' not. The missing cavity-buster is a spot of f tea. Studies show that the more tea people j drink the less decay they have, r Tea fights cavities because it has an f: unusually high flouride content. The ireason: Tea plants are among plants that Jabsorb flouride from the soil. ffs^ fACTf WSSU Choir Presents Christmas Cantata By Angela Corbett Editor-in-Chief The WSSU Choir is one of the student organizations that receives much support from the Winston-Salem community. Directed by Dr. James B. Kinchen Jr. and managed by Dwight Bryant, the University Choir, presently consists of 45 students, which are mainly freshman and sophomores. Choir is offered as a general course every semester at WSSU and is always seeking ! new membership. Although, it is not re- • quired to audition before being accepted in- i. to the choir, Kinchen often listens to many i of the student’s voices. ■ Usually during the first semester students t familiarize themselves with singing fun- I damental, open tone, good volume tone and the ability to apply fundamentals to produce the best possible music. The students therefore interact as a group to bring about a common goal. This semester, the choir has been guided by their officers. Sherwood Davis; presi dent; Jonetta Baldwin, Vice-president; and Lynette Harley, secretary/treasurer. The choir has performed a series of con certs at area high schools, including Reynolds, Parkland, and Glenn, not to men tion their performance during the Advent series at Mount Zion Baptist Church. On December 9th, at 8 p.m., in the K.R. William Auditorium they will present their annual Christmas Cantata. It is free and open to the public. Dr. Kinchen feels that the choir is an “important part of the university’s cultural and artistic life.” Although people appreciate their efforts the choir like many organizations is seeking more support! For the first time they have a somewhat mediocre budget, which limits their production. However, Dr. Kinchen hopes the administration will set the tone for more support. © Surprisingly, cold winter air contains very little mois ture. When it’s 30 degrees outside, with a relative humidity of 35 percent, that air warmed by your heating system to 70 degrees will re duce the relative humidity to a parched seven percent. For your skin, that’s worse than living in the Sahara Desert! The brilliant colors of fire- worlcs come from bright- burning metallic salts.
