Herb, (wherever you are) I had put you out of my mind ’til I saw you on TV, in prime time. There you were smiling and looking sane. While I suffered and you’re to blame. So I see you’ve been busy breaking hearts; They’ve even offered a reward in all parts. Herb, you can’t always hide and run Looking for the good times and the fun. You may as well give up ’cause with your luck Someone will spot you and holler Just for the sake of a few dollars. Then your game will come to an end And you’ll realize that I am your only friend. So come on home, O.K. The kids are hungry, and I’m lonely And we could use the money. Honey. MM by Victor O. Coffey Managing Editor Valentine’s Day, which is celebrated on February 14 each year is a day when people send cards expressing love and affection to each other. The day is named after two different saints named Valentine. Both of them lived hundreds of years ago in Rome, Italy. No one knows why these saints are associated with the custom of sending messages of love. The name of these saints is used because February 14 is the feast day on which they are honored and celebrated. The custom of sending greetings on St. Valentine’s Day has grown through the years, and now millions of people in the United States and many other countries, : send greeting cards on February 14th. The cards are beautifully decorated with : hearts and Cupids and other symbols of • love. • Candy and flowers also are often sent on • Valentine’s Day. Chocolates For Valentine’s Day by Victor Coffey Would you like some $90 chocolate legs? Chocolate has become over a billion dollar a year industry and because of this it has become known as a high-priced luxury. Over a million tons a year is eaten and it is at it’s highest sales ever. There is a great demand for chocolate on Valentine’s Day, but there is even a greater demand during the Christmas holidays. The name of Hershey has come to sym- I bolize chocolate for many Americans. In ■ Hershey, Pennsylvania, the chocolate capitol of the world, the street lights are shaped like Hershey Kisses and the sweet •: smell pervades the whole town. •: Designers and manufacturers such as Bill Blass and Godiva are currently producing chocolates. Godiva has been called the }. “Rolls Royce of Chocolate” because of its j: excellent quality, specially molded pieces i; and elaborate gold box. Godiva can be found at Belk’s at Hanes Mall in Winston-Salem, i; The Swiss make the best chocolate, some i; say. It is handcrafted and contains no preservatives and usually sells for more the Godiva a pound. •: Researchers have discovered that a •; chemical produced by the brain, •: phenylethylamine, is also found in chocolate. When you are attracted to so- S meone phenylethylamine gives you and S “up.” and acts as a stimulus to other chemicals in your body. The more pheylethylamine your body produces, the •i; more it needs. Thus, the broken heart’s •i: craving for chocolate. Chocolate has come ii; to symbolize more than flavor, it sym- bolizes wealth, status and surely LOVE.
