Student Relationships by Angela Boone Is there anyone who doesn’t desire a fulfilling love relationship? If we’re not cur rently enjoying one, we surely long to share our lives with someone we find exciting, tender, supportive, and sexually thrilling too. But if we’re all looking for the same good things in love, why are so many rela tionships in flux. The most complicated situation for any college student is a student relationship. So what is a student relationship? They’re several different types of student relation ships, but the most popular is the distant relationship. Most students in college are either involv ed in school activities, maintaining a job, or bogged down with their studies. What makes all of this hard work worth while, is that special someone on campus or back home. A lot of people feel having a relation ship while in college is too much to bare, and that can be true in some cases. College studies put a lot of stress on students, and is enough to deal with. Today college students are learning that love and the books aren’t compatiable. These two obligations mixed together often produce disappointment, a lack of studying, or the worst nightmare for anyone “A BROKEN HEART.” How can this problem be resolved so that nothing or no one is neglected? There really isn’t an answer that could suit the lives of so many different people, but with the will of all hearts and the sanity of all minds, this pro blem can be solved. How? What all students should establish among themselves is where they stand with their mates and let than be known and recogniz ed. To often we let our hearts lead us to believe something is shared and it really isn’t. Once we establish where we stand with someone, then we can go ahead and put our minds on our school work. It’s impor tant that we do the things we find fulfilling and necessary for our well-being, whether or not we have a lover. What should be stressed most is the fact that while in col lege each and every student has to have a clear mind to get ahead. Student relationships during college years shouldn’t be neglected, because we all need companionship. It’s nice to have so meone who understands your wants and needs, but it’s better to have someone flexi ble enough to understand you as a person. People who don’t attend college won’t ever know the lifestyles of college students. Everyone thinks college is a blast and it’s full of excitement and fun, which it can be. College is really a time for growing and growing pains as well. Student relationships in college is a part of all the growing that will be remembered in the years to come. We will remember the lonely weekends, thoughts of that distant love, and even the disappointment of that special love that led to a dropping of grades. What will be cherished most of all is the learning of experiences in our student rela tionships while in college. Thoughts will flow in our minds and we’ll say, “I believe that was Fall? Semester 84 or was it Spring 85.” Various thoughts will flow and we will always remember those college relation ships. 9. The Nobel Peace Prize 10. Massinissa 11. Larry Doby 12. Tanya’s Movie Review “The Color Purple” by Tanya McDougal Stephen Spielberg has mesmerized his audiences again with the moving and dramatic account of Alice Walker’s pulitzer prize winning novel, “The Color Purple.” The film traces the 40 year saga of a Southern black woman’s triumph over a timid, insecure childhood and terrifying marraige to becoming a self fulfilled woman who establishes her own identity. Celie, the leading character is portrayed by comediene Whoppi Goldberg. This gives Goldberg a chance to prove that she can shift from comedy to drama and still retain her audiences. Her performance is ex cellent, considering this is her first attempt at becoming a dramatic actress, which places her up with some of the best. Chicago’s talk-show host; Oprah Winfrey adds another superb performance. She practically steals the spotlight as she por trays the big and proud Sopma, wno never let’s her color stand in the way of her pride. This marks the first attempt for both of these women to bring their talents to the big screen. Other cast performers include Margaret Avery, who plays the self-centered but lov ing blues singer Shug Avery, along with Danny Glover, who plays “Mister,” the abusive husband of Celie. Some parts of “The Color Purple” were filmed in North Carolina and we also had an opportunity to see a graduate of WSSU, Ms. Maria Howell shine in the spotlight, she played the role as the lead singer of the gospel choir. “The Color Purple” is indeed a must for everyone to see. The moving, dramatic tale has the power to reach out and touch your deepest emotions. Drama Guild To Perform In High Point By Carolyn B.
